Deutsche Telekom's venture arm DTCP has closed the first subscription round of its Defence Fund I, pulling in capital commitments of €455 million, with the Bonn-based carrier joining as a strategic backer. The vehicle channels money into security and defence technologies, giving the group early sightlines into specialized network and security innovation that sits well outside its day-to-day business of running fixed and mobile infrastructure.

Word of the fund close landed alongside a modest recovery in the share price. The stock added 1.0% on Thursday to change hands at €27.12, a welcome bounce after a bruising stretch for European telecoms. On 18 September the sector-wide selloff dragged the shares down 4.19% in a single session. Even with the latest uptick, the equity remains 21% below its 52-week high of €34.35, a peak set at the end of February.

Satellite Push Extends Reach Beyond Terrestrial Networks

While DTCP scouts defence and security deals, the operating side of the business is widening its connectivity footprint into orbit. A new partnership targets global low-earth-orbit (LEO) links, forming the backbone of Telekom's multiorbit IoT roaming solution. Through that network, customers can reach devices and sensors in remote areas where conventional terrestrial mobile coverage simply does not exist.

The space ambitions run in parallel with ground-level buildout. In Oldenburg, the operator switched on two new sites and upgraded a further station with 4G and 5G equipment, bringing its local network to 65 locations. Data consumption in the area is climbing at roughly 30% a year, underlining why the extra capacity matters.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

BNetzA Proposes 32% Margin Across Fiber Tiers

Closer to home, the future shape of Germany's fiber market is now in play. Bundesnetzagentur president Klaus Müller made clear that competition must be preserved on fiber infrastructure going forward. The regulator has floated a fair margin of 32% spanning all bandwidth classes.

The detail behind that headline number varies by speed tier: connections running between 100 and 200 Mbit/s would carry a 37% margin, while 1 Gbit/s lines would see 28%. As an alternative calculation method, the agency has put forward a flat fee of €5 plus 20% of the effective end-customer price. The rules would apply to the open-access model, under which rival providers gain entry to networks already laid.

Elliott Builds Stake as T-Mobile US Question Lingers

Running alongside the regulatory and investment activity is a strategic debate about the group's long-term structure. Elliott Investment Management established a position in Deutsche Telekom on 3 September, according to Reuters, and has been pressing management to steer clear of any merger with its US subsidiary T-Mobile US. The discussion over portfolio direction stretches beyond American shores — Reuters assessed the priority M&A options on 21 September as lying mainly in Europe. How the US business ultimately fits into the picture remains a pivotal factor in how the company is valued.

Quarterly Figures and What Comes Next

The most recent set of hard numbers came with the second-quarter 2026 report, when revenue reached €29.93 billion, up 4.4% from €28.67 billion a year earlier. Earnings per share for the period slipped to €0.51 from €0.54 in the prior-year quarter. Market participants will get their next official look under the hood on 5 November, when the group publishes its third-quarter financial report.
