D-Wave Quantum Trades at 15.20 Euro as Boardroom Reshuffle and CGI Deal Signal a Shift From Lab to Ledger
Published on 09/25/2026 at 21:20 | Editorial boerse-global.deQuantum computing spent years as a promise locked inside university cleanrooms, bankrolled by risk capital with an appetite for patience. That era is fading. What matters now is whether the physics can survive contact with a profit-and-loss statement — and D-Wave Quantum is positioning itself squarely on that fault line.
The Canadian company's latest moves read like a checklist for commercial legitimacy rather than a research roadmap. On Wednesday it unveiled a strategic partnership with IT services provider CGI, aimed at embedding practical quantum applications directly into CGI's technology and consulting portfolio. Under the arrangement, enterprise clients gain access to D-Wave's Advantage2 quantum computer alongside its hybrid solvers, targeting complex optimization work across logistics, transportation and retail.
That alliance marks a genuine strategic pivot. Until now, quantum pioneers largely had to market their systems themselves to specialized research teams. Handing distribution to an established integrator pushes the technology toward direct deployment inside existing corporate architectures — the place where classical mainframes start to choke on routing problems and heavy computational models.
Governance Tailored to Regulated Clients
Preparations for more heavily regulated, professional customers are visible in the boardroom as well. Effective September 18, D-Wave appointed Bernard Gavgani, a long-serving BNP Paribas technology executive, as an independent Class II director. He simultaneously takes a seat on the company's Cybersecurity Committee.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?
The hire is more than window dressing. If advanced computational models are to reach banks, insurers and sensitive supply chains, security architecture and credible governance become non-negotiable entry tickets. An internationally connected IT veteran out of traditional banking signals to institutional buyers the kind of reliability that start-up-flavored pioneers are often denied.
The board change follows a shift at the top of the finance function. Roughly three weeks ago, Greg Golkov stepped in as Acting Chief Financial Officer and principal financial and accounting officer, with the search for a permanent occupant of the role still ongoing.
A Market That Wants Receipts
Equity markets have greeted the gap between industrial potential and practical execution with restraint. During the current session the stock slipped 1.1% to 15.20 euro, after closing the prior day at 15.36 euro. Year to date the shares are down 32%, and at the latest price the title sits 62% below its 52-week high.
State support offers some counterweight. A finalized agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce grants D-Wave access to as much as $100 million under the CHIPS and Science Act, earmarked to extend its technological leadership in quantum computing. At the same time, filings show the U.S. agency retains the right to resell 7,095,721 common shares.
International expansion continues in parallel. D-Wave has scheduled its Qubits Asia 2026 user conference for October 28, 2026 in Seoul, where it intends to deepen dialogue with Asian users and partners on industrial applications.
Stitching together federal funding, a systems-integrator alliance and a beefed-up governance bench, management is trying to cement the commercial footing for the leap from research projects into regular production operations. For investors, the open question is whether those partnerships mature into durable revenue streams.
