D-Wave Quantum closed Friday's session at EUR 14,02, down 5,0% on the day, with market commentary offering no clear operational trigger for the slide. The retreat extended a bruising stretch for the quantum computing specialist, which has now surrendered 38% of its value since the start of the year and trades roughly 65% below its 52-week high.

The absence of a fresh catalyst did not stop the company from making headlines on other fronts. On Thursday, Pomerantz LLP disclosed that it had launched a probe into potential claims on behalf of investors and invited affected shareholders to come forward. The step is a law firm's own initiative and explicitly not a regulatory finding or a conclusion reached by the company itself.

Beta Program and CGI Tie-Up Fail to Rouse Buyers

D-Wave has spent recent weeks rolling out initiatives meant to broaden the reach of its technology. Among them is a beta program for a gate-model quantum simulator, giving selected research and industry organizations early access to applications built on the company's error-aware programming approach. The participant list includes the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, Spanish lender BBVA, FirstQFM and Florida Atlantic University.

On the commercial side, the company struck a strategic partnership with IT services provider CGI a little over a week ago, aimed at driving practical quantum computing adoption in the enterprise. The collaboration centers on optimizing supply chains across logistics, passenger and freight transport, rail operations and retail.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

Neither the simulator rollout nor the CGI alliance generated sustained buying interest. Market participants instead focused on the question of when these initiatives will translate into tangible revenue.

Board Appointment and Insider Filing Round Out the News Flow

D-Wave also moved on the governance front, naming Bernard Gavgani to its board of directors and cybersecurity committee on September 21. Gavgani previously served as group CIO at BNP Paribas and currently works as a senior technology and innovation advisor at the French bank — a profile that appears geared toward building credibility with established IT and banking players.

Regulatory filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission offered a further glimpse into executive activity. Sophie C. Ames, executive vice president and chief people officer, had 1.544 shares withheld on September 15 to cover tax obligations tied to vesting restricted stock units. Following that transaction, her beneficial ownership stood at 563.615 shares.

Conference Circuit Continues as Skepticism Builds

Management has kept up its promotional push on the industry circuit. D-Wave showcased applications for annealing as well as its gate-model architecture at the Quantum World Congress, held from September 23 to 25 in College Park. The company has already penciled in its next appearance: the Qubits Asia 2026 user conference, scheduled for October 28, 2026 in Seoul.

Whether conference appearances and pilot projects can chip away at growing investor skepticism is the central question hanging over the stock. For D-Wave, the path to a more stable valuation runs through demonstrating that partnerships and simulations reliably convert into measurable corporate revenue. Until that proof arrives, the market appears content to greet each new milestone with a shrug.
