D-Wave Quantum's Foundry and University Deals Advance as the Stock Languishes

D-Wave Quantum is pressing ahead on the industrial and academic fronts even as its share price continues to slide. The stock changed hands at 11.20 EUR on the day, a decline of 2.0 percent, and has now surrendered 51 percent of its value since the start of the year. That weakness has less to do with D-Wave's own execution than with a sector-wide chill: according to media reports, rival IonQ's multi-billion-dollar equity raise stoked fears of dilution across the quantum space, and D-Wave was swept up in the fallout alongside its peers.

A Flagship Machine Bound for Lake Como

Central to the company's commercial strategy is the shipment of an Advantage2 quantum computer to Europe. The system, which packs more than 4,400 qubits, is destined for installation at Villa Saporiti in the Italian town of Como. D-Wave describes it as the first annealing system of its kind in Italy.

The project is being bankrolled by Swiss Quantum Technology SA under an agreement worth 10 million EUR. In return, the partner secures half of the system's capacity for a period of five years, and the contract also carries a purchase option for the entire machine. Once commissioning is complete, the quantum computer is to be made available through D-Wave's in-house Leap cloud service.

SkyWater Tie-Up Extends a Productive Run

On the technical side, D-Wave is simultaneously shoring up its semiconductor supply chain. An existing collaboration with SkyWater Technology has been extended under a multi-year agreement, with production taking place at SkyWater's facility in the US state of Minnesota. The arrangement covers the development of specialized semiconductor processes needed to deliver on D-Wave's roadmap for superconducting quantum technology.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

The partnership has already produced measurable results. A prior joint optimization project cut lot delays at the SkyWater plant by as much as 30 percent, according to the two companies — evidence that the relationship has moved well beyond theoretical feasibility studies and into genuine industrial optimization of the manufacturing chain.

Universities as Anchors for Real-World Use

Beyond the foundry floor, D-Wave is weaving its platforms into academia. Together with Florida Atlantic University, the company has set up a program to train specialists in quantum cybersecurity; the university received a grant agreement from NIST worth 200,000 USD for the effort, and plans to install an Advantage2 system on its Boca Raton campus.

A separate partnership with the University of Arkansas is focused on a quantum-based supply chain initiative. Taken together, these programs plant D-Wave's technology in applications ranging from logistics to security.

D-Wave Quantum at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

A Widening Gap Between Operations and Valuation

For investors, the picture is a study in contrasts. D-Wave is placing real systems, extending its manufacturing base, and building ties with end users — yet the market is trading the stock at a steep distance from its 200-day moving average of 17.37 EUR, a gap that lays bare the severity of the recent downtrend. The question now is whether these strategic steps can eventually offset the prevailing market weakness, or whether sector-wide anxiety over capital measures will keep the shares under pressure in the near term.
