D-Wave Quantum: A Lead-Plaintiff Deadline, a 91.90% Lab Score and a November 10 Reckoning

D-Wave Quantum is currently juggling three storylines that investors keep conflating: a securities lawsuit working its way through the courts, a pair of research wins that say something about the technology but nothing about revenue, and a quarterly report due before the market opens on November 10. Sorting them apart is the whole exercise.

Start with the litigation. A securities class action filed on October 15 alleges D-Wave misled investors during a period running from February 26 to August 25. This week brought a fresh reminder that the deadline to move for lead plaintiff falls on December 15. That notice does not represent a newly filed suit — it points back to the existing case and its filing window. The distinction matters: a re-publication of a case update is neither a judicial finding nor proof of the claims. By the same token, a stream of upbeat company announcements does nothing to make the legal exposure disappear. The two have to be weighed on separate scales.

A Korean MoU and a Japanese Prize

On the business side, D-Wave disclosed roughly a week ago a memorandum of understanding with LG CNS. The two plan to build quantum-optimization applications and jointly pursue their commercialization, beginning with South Korea and international markets. Target sectors include manufacturing, telecommunications, finance and retail. The agreement is explicitly non-binding. D-Wave attached no contract value and no committed purchase order, which caps what it can tell us about near-term business momentum.

A customer milestone announced October 28 deserves the same careful reading. D-Wave reported that Shionogi took first place in the quality-of-life category of Japan's NEDO quantum-computing challenge. The ¥40 million prize supports Shionogi's continued work on quantum-assisted drug discovery. According to the company, the winning project paired D-Wave's annealing technology with a generative AI model — a concrete research approach, to be sure, but the award went to the customer, not to D-Wave, and it is not equivalent to an order.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?

91.90% Accuracy, With Caveats Attached

Then there is the medical study. Researchers at Florida Atlantic University examined D-Wave's quantum-annealing hardware for lung-cancer prediction using limited data. A support-vector-machine model run on the quantum hardware reached 91.90% accuracy, and the university said D-Wave's systems delivered the highest accuracy in the investigation.

The caveats are as important as the headline number. The university explicitly labeled the findings preliminary. The work also rested on a dataset augmented with additional data and on the particular evaluation method chosen. For investors, that means the result sketches a possible application area for the technology; it should not be mistaken for demonstrated performance in real-world clinical settings, and a hit rate alone cannot be converted into an economic contribution for D-Wave.

Worth noting alongside the study: the stock posted a daily move of -5.7% yesterday. The research result does not explain that price action, and the price action does not invalidate the research.

What November 10 Will and Won't Settle

The next scheduled checkpoint is D-Wave's third-quarter 2026 results, slated for release before the opening bell on November 10. That print is the nearest announced occasion to judge the financial trajectory against the backdrop of research and partnership news.

Until then, three distinct evidentiary layers sit side by side: unproven lawsuit allegations, a non-binding collaboration, and an award-winning research approach. None of them should harden into established misconduct on one side or secured commercial success on the other. The university study sharpens the picture of what the hardware might do; whether economically relevant applications follow is a question it leaves open — and one the November numbers will not answer either.
