Shares in CATL climbed 5.1% on Monday, riding a broad rally across lithium and battery stocks as lithium carbonate futures recovered by more than 5% during the session. Market watchers linked the sector-wide move to renewed appetite for risk in the upstream lithium space, which tends to lift the entire battery supply chain.

The advance came alongside a busy stretch of corporate news. CATL disclosed that it had repurchased 19,605,919 A-shares for RMB 5.36 billion through October 31, a figure that represents 0.4447% of its A-share capital. The buyback still has considerable room to run: the company's announced program envisions a total volume of between RMB 20 billion and RMB 40 billion.

Australian Storage Push and Aviation Partnership

On the product front, CATL unveiled its TENER+ energy storage system at All Energy Australia 2026 on October 29, alongside the TENER Sodium. According to a report by the AAP news agency, the company also signed letters of intent with Hitachi Energy, EPEC Group and UNSW Sydney covering utility-scale battery projects in Australia.

A separate tie-up announced Monday will see CATL develop a tailor-made aviation battery for Blue Vector Intelligent Technology's SKYLA V30 aircraft, with CATL becoming the exclusive battery partner for the craft. The agreement spans both the development of a dedicated battery solution and the exclusive partnership.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CATL?

Two days earlier, CATL had struck a strategic cooperation with Dongfeng Motor to build an ecosystem linking batteries, vehicles and energy services, encompassing ultra-fast charging, battery swapping and collaboration in overseas markets.

Legal Cloud Lifts at Debrecen

CATL's Hungarian battery plant in Debrecen shed a legal burden when a local court dismissed a lawsuit brought by residents against the facility's permit on October 30. Reuters reported that the court denied the plaintiffs standing after a revision of the approval documents and found no irregularities in the state permitting process.

On the technology roadmap, CATL reaffirmed on October 27 via the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's interactive platform that it plans to begin trial small-series production of sulphide-based solid-state batteries in 2027. The company stressed this remains a production plan rather than a manufacturing start that has already taken place.

Science Push and Quarterly Growth

Speaking at the World Laureates Forum on Saturday, CEO Robin Zeng called for closer cooperation between the battery industry and the scientific community, with the company saying such collaboration—together with the use of artificial intelligence—should accelerate scientific discoveries and technological innovation.

CATL's third-quarter 2026 results, reported on October 21, showed revenue of RMB 165.22 billion, up 58.6% year on year. Net profit attributable to shareholders reached RMB 21.25 billion, a gain of 14.5%. For the first nine months of 2026, revenue totaled RMB 442.14 billion, representing growth of 56.2% compared with the prior-year period.
