BYD's Overseas Surge Masks Earnings Shortfall as Brussels Pressure Builds
Published on 11/07/2026 at 21:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD's overseas expansion is doing the heavy lifting. October deliveries abroad more than doubled year-on-year to roughly 170,000 vehicles, a 102.8% jump that offset softer demand at home, according to Reuters. Total vehicle sales rose 11% to about 490,000 units — a headline gain that rested almost entirely on markets outside China.
The figures landed alongside a product offensive. On Thursday, BYD launched the second-generation Seal 07 sedan in China, offering both a battery-electric version and a plug-in hybrid. List prices for the model range from 139,900 RMB to 172,900 RMB.
Q3 profit climbs but falls short
Third-quarter 2026 results, reported on 29 October, showed net profit attributable to shareholders of 10 billion RMB — up 28.08% from a year earlier but below what analysts had forecast. Revenue advanced 13.59% to 221.5 billion RMB over the same period, again trailing consensus expectations. The growth was real; the beat was not.

Lawmakers press Brussels
In Europe, meanwhile, BYD is facing political headwinds. Fourteen members of the European Parliament have asked the European Commission to assess whether the company's vehicles pose a security risk, Reuters reported. The lawmakers also urged the Commission to consider possible restrictions, including exclusion from public procurement procedures.
BYD pushed back, stating that vehicle and cloud data cannot be accessed remotely from China.
Shares edge higher
Investors took the mixed news in stride. The stock gained 1.7% on Friday, closing at €8.54.
