BYD's Fangchengbao Crosses 600,000 Deliveries as Export Tax Cut Clouds the Horizon
Published on 10/19/2026 at 11:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD's premium sub-brand Fangchengbao has pushed past 600,000 cumulative vehicle sales, the Chinese electric-vehicle maker said, with media reports putting September deliveries for the marque at 43,181 units — a 79% jump on the same month a year earlier. The figure lands as the group keeps widening its lineup in China's higher-priced segments, and it slots into a broader operational surge: Reuters reported that BYD moved 463,561 new-energy vehicles in September, its strongest monthly showing of 2026 so far and a 17% increase year on year.
Product news has come thick and fast alongside those numbers. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has now listed the next-generation Han series in its official homologation filings, revealing three fully battery-electric variants plus a plug-in hybrid. The range-topping all-wheel-drive version musters 520 kW of system output. The filing comes hard on the heels of the Da Han flagship sedan's domestic launch on 13 October, priced between 235,900 and 275,900 RMB, with BYD quoting a range of up to 1,008 km on China's CLTC cycle and a fast-charging function capable of replenishing the battery in nine minutes.
Paris Showcase and a Five-Star Pickup
Outside China, the manufacturer is steadily widening its footprint. At the Paris Motor Show it unveiled the seven-seat ATTO 8, fitted with a 115-kWh second-generation Blade battery and rated at up to 653 km on the WLTP standard; European dealers are due to receive the model in the first quarter of 2027. The same event served as a stage for technology-focused premium models from the group's Denza brand, aimed squarely at wealthier buyers.
In the pickup and commercial segment, the Shark DMO picked up the maximum five-star rating in the European Euro NCAP crash test. British customers can order the model from £47,295 including VAT.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?
Charging infrastructure is expanding in parallel. On 14 October BYD brought its Flash Charging technology to Indonesia together with the Denza D9 and Z9GT, both using the second-generation Blade Battery; the company says the system can go from 10% to 70% charge in five minutes, and it plans 100 charging stations there by the end of 2026.
Local Production Under Review
In Europe, BYD is weighing local manufacturing capacity. Executive Vice President Stella Li said on 12 October that the company is closely examining the construction of a plant in France and considering further European sites. France sits on the shortlist, though no final investment decision has been taken.
Those deliberations unfold against trade-policy friction: China and the European Union agreed to limit exports of Chinese hybrid vehicles into the bloc. According to Reuters, BYD views the arrangement as short-term pressure but remains committed to Europe.
A Tax Change Weighs on Export Margins
Costs, however, are shifting. China's Ministry of Finance has decided to cut the VAT rebate on exports of alternative-drive vehicles from 13% to 9% effective 1 April 2027. Media reports suggest the measure is creating uncertainty over future export margins.
Investors have shown their caution in the chart. The stock traded at EUR 8.38 on the day, a modest gain of 0.5%, having closed at EUR 8.34 the previous Friday. Year to date the shares are down 22%, and at a 17% discount the stock continues to sit below its 200-day moving average. Market participants are watching above all how the negotiations over export terms for hybrid models will feed through to margins in the European business.
