BYD's Da Han Arrives at Dealerships Just as Investors Brace for Interim Results

The gap between BYD's showroom momentum and its stock-market performance has rarely been wider. The Chinese electric-vehicle giant has just put its flagship Da Han sedan on sale in China, with the first units reaching dealerships within days of the launch — an unusually brisk turnaround that underscores both production muscle and pent-up demand.
The timing is no accident. On 28 August, BYD's board convenes to sign off on the half-year results for the first six months of 2026, and the company is walking into that meeting with a record delivery month, an export surge and a product pipeline that stretches from SUVs to family MPVs.
A Flagship Priced to Move
The Da Han was unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show, where BYD opened pre-orders across three trim levels. The entry price sits at 249,900 yuan, rising to 299,900 yuan for the all-wheel-drive variant, with a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,008 kilometres. Regular sales began on Monday, and the first cars were already rolling into dealer showrooms shortly after — a sign that BYD's manufacturing capacity can keep pace with consumer appetite.
The same show served as the platform for the third-generation Tang SUV, slated for a fourth-quarter 2026 launch. The five-seater offers up to 850 kilometres of range, a second-generation Blade battery and charging capability that takes the pack from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes. The God's Eye B driver-assistance suite comes as standard equipment. A BYD executive also flagged that the first MPV in the Ocean model family could reach the market before year-end, extending the brand's push into family-oriented vehicles.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?
Exports Carry the Weight
The model offensive lands on top of a business that is increasingly powered by overseas demand. In July, BYD delivered 419,211 electric vehicles — the strongest monthly figure of 2026 and a 21.76 percent improvement year on year. The standout metric, however, is exports: 179,841 passenger cars and pick-ups shipped abroad, a 124.3 percent jump from the same month last year. International sales now account for roughly 43 percent of total volume, a clear signal that BYD's growth narrative is being written beyond China's borders.
The company is also leaning on technology as a differentiator. The fleet equipped with its God's Eye assistance system has surpassed 3.52 million vehicles, with 187,670 units featuring intelligent driving functions sold in July alone. According to the company, the system generates more than 220 million kilometres of driving data daily — a dataset that should feed future software iterations.
Outside China, expansion continues apace. In early August, BYD's first Brazilian-built plug-in hybrid flex-fuel model rolled off the line in the country, following a two-year investment of 100 million reais, as reported by Reuters.
A Stock Still Climbing Back
The share price, meanwhile, is showing signs of stabilisation after a bruising stretch. On Tuesday, the stock was up 2.1 percent at 10.21 euros, building on a 4.2 percent weekly gain. That move has pushed the shares back above the 50-day moving average of 9.59 euros, while the gap to the 200-day average has narrowed to just 2.3 percent in negative territory.
BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The longer-term picture remains sobering. The stock is down 4.6 percent year to date, and the twelve-month comparison shows a 20 percent deficit. The 52-week high of 13.23 euros, set in late August 2025, still looks distant — the current price sits roughly 23 percent below that peak. Yet the recent recovery from the lows suggests investors are beginning to credit the combination of an export boom and a dense launch calendar, even as the domestic market shows signs of softness.
The Earnings Question
For shareholders, the central issue is whether the operational strength — record deliveries, surging exports and a packed product roadmap — translates into financial substance when the interim numbers are released. The second half of the year has a clear growth story in the Tang, the Da Han and the planned Ocean MPV. Whether that narrative is enough to sustain the stock's recovery will become clearer once the board approves the figures this week.
