BYD plans 3,000 European fast-charging stations by end-2027 and a global storage service network, as nine-month sales fall 3.94% and shares sit near 52-week low.

BYD is betting that infrastructure and after-sales muscle can do what a busy product calendar alone has not: revive momentum in a stock that has spent the year under pressure. The Chinese group unveiled a two-pronged expansion on Tuesday, pairing a European fast-charging buildout with a global service network for its battery storage business, even as its sales figures point the other way.

On the storage side, the BYD Energy Storage unit announced a worldwide customer service network for its battery systems. The structure takes in nine operations and maintenance centres and leans on more than 200 field engineers, with additional branches slated for South Africa and Bulgaria in 2027. Over 100 research and development specialists are tied into the network, a push aimed at giving commercial clients technical support long after installation and shoring up confidence in the reliability of BYD's storage solutions.

Charging, Staffing and a Paris Flagship

The vehicle business is moving on a similar scale in Europe. At the Paris Motor Show, BYD presented new models and core technologies alongside its Denza brand, including the seven-seat ATTO 8 flagship SUV and the second generation of its Blade battery. To drive uptake of its own fast-charging technology, the company said it will install 3,000 fast-charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027.

Headcount on the continent is set to follow. Deputy chairwoman Stella Li told Bloomberg that the European workforce will soon pass the 10,000 mark, with roughly 40,000 employees planned in the region by 2030. The ATTO 8 itself packs a 115 kilowatt-hour second-generation Blade battery, delivers up to 653 kilometres of WLTP range and comes with fast-charging capability.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

At home, BYD introduced the Da Han electric flagship sedan, built on a 1,000-volt architecture with up to 1,008 kilometres of CLTC range. The entry-level variant is priced at 235,900 Yuan. The domestic line-up is being refreshed at a brisk clip: the second generation of the compact Seagull EV was due to launch in China on Tuesday, according to media reports, arriving as a larger five-seater with a more powerful electric motor, though official prices were not yet available at launch.

Safety Nod and Battery Share

International ambitions got a lift from Europe's safety tester. The SHARK DMO plug-in hybrid pickup received the top five-star rating from Euro NCAP in mid-October. In energy storage deployment, data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance showed BYD installed 18.29 gigawatt-hours of traction batteries in China in September, a market share of 21.09%.

Deliveries Retreat as Q3 Looms

The product offensive has yet to show through in volumes. BYD delivered 463,561 new-energy vehicles in September, 180,700 of them exported. Over the first nine months of 2026, sales totalled 3,131,576 vehicles, down 3.94% from the same period a year earlier.

Investors will get a clearer read on the financial impact shortly. The company has called a board meeting for 29 October 2026 to review unaudited results for the third quarter and the first nine months of the year.

The shares have reflected the softer sales momentum. BYD closed yesterday's session at EUR 8.30, leaving the stock just 3.3% above its 52-week low. In today's trading it slipped 0.1% to EUR 8.33, extending its loss since the turn of the year to 22%. The upcoming quarterly report should shed light on how margins and profitability are holding up in an intensifying battle for market share.
