BYD has flipped the switch on a battery facility in China's Shaanxi province, adding a fresh pillar to the vertically integrated manufacturing model that underpins its vehicle business. The plant, located in the Xixian district, entered full operation on 30 September and is among the first sites dedicated to the second generation of the company's Blade Battery cells.

Media reports put the investment tab at 7 billion Yuan. Designed for an annual output of 16 gigawatt-hours, the site gives BYD more in-house cell capacity at a moment when competition over energy-efficient storage solutions is heating up worldwide. The move is a clear bet on keeping critical components close to home rather than relying on outside suppliers.

Charging infrastructure is expanding in step with cell production. On 24 September the automaker commissioned its 2,000th fast-charging station along Chinese expressways, hitting the milestone ahead of a year-end target. Its proprietary network now blankets close to a third of the rest stops on the country's long-distance highway system.

Seal 07 Preview Points to a Two-Powertrain Strategy

Product news has kept pace with the industrial build-out. On 28 September BYD offered a first look at the second generation of its Seal 07 sedan, which will be sold in two forms: a pure battery-electric variant and a plug-in hybrid. Pricing and a firm launch date were left open.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

The reveal targets the fiercely contested mid-size segment, where refreshing established nameplates is central to defending market share and pulling in new buyers. It slots into a busy stretch of operational headlines. A day later, on 29 September, the ten-millionth vehicle from the Dynasty line rolled off the production line — the flagship Da Han sedan, whose market debut is set for 13 October.

Not everything has gone to plan. On Saturday the company confirmed a software vulnerability in the Shark 6's infotainment system that had allowed an unauthorized app to be installed. BYD said it would deliver a fix over the air once internal checks are complete.

September Sales Set a Yearly High, but Nine-Month Tally Lags

The product push lands against a mixed demand picture. Monthly figures show sales of new-energy vehicles climbed 16.98% year on year in September to 463,561 units — the strongest reading so far this year. Over the first nine months, however, volume reached 3,131,576 units, a touch below the prior-year level.

Caution on the Street has been building. Roughly a week ago JPMorgan downgraded the stock to Neutral from Overweight and cut its price target to 88 HK$ from 124 HK$, citing softer domestic demand, rising raw-material and procurement costs, and political uncertainty plus trade barriers abroad.

BYD is also pressing its case in renewables through the courts. On 21 September subsidiary BYD America LLC filed a declaratory judgment action against First Solar in the US, seeking a ruling that a First Solar patent is not infringed, is invalid and is unenforceable.

Shares Edge Higher but Stay Deep in the Red for the Year

Investors greeted the manufacturing and charging progress with mild optimism. The stock added 1.6% in the previous session to close at EUR 8.53, though the broader trend remains subdued: the shares are down 20% since the start of the year as market participants keep a close watch on margins and export prospects. In today's trading the stock is holding steady at EUR 8.45, which puts it 5.2% above its 52-week low of EUR 8.03.
