Brewery Group's Exit Package: Up to €150,000 on Offer as 220 Workers Face Plant Closures

A negotiated severance framework between Haus-Cramer Group and the food-and-beverage union NGG is set to soften the blow for employees at two East Westphalian sites. The deal, signed on 30 July 2026, covers 220 workers affected by the company's planned shutdowns and restructuring.
Workers who leave will receive between 50 and 70 percent of their gross monthly salary for each year of service, capped at €150,000 per person. There is also a sweetener for those who waive their right to challenge the dismissal in court: an extra 20 percent of one month's pay per year of employment. Parents get €3,000 per child, and accrued overtime will be paid out at 90 percent.
The timeline for the closures is staggered. At the Herford brewery, which employs around 100 people, production is scheduled to stop at the end of August. Reports indicate the final batch of Herford Pils — 40,000 crates — has already been bottled, with dismantling of the filling line set to begin next week. The brand will continue to be produced and bottled at the Warstein site. Notices for the Herford workforce cannot be issued before September.

The Paderborn facility, with 120 staff, faces closure by the end of the year. There, dismissals are planned no earlier than November.
The company is also offering alternatives to redundancy. Fifty positions are available at Warstein, and the social plan includes relocation support of up to €3,500 for those who move. Commuters will receive a flat rate of 35 cents per kilometre.
Beyond the workforce reductions, the group is repositioning itself. Warsteiner Brewery intends to rejoin the NRW Brewers' Association starting in 2029 — a move that signals the family-owned company's longer-term direction once the current consolidation in Ostwestfalen is complete.
