BioNTech spent $463.3 million buying back its own stock through September 30, repurchasing 5,037,452 ADSs under a program that runs until May 6, 2027 and carries an approved ceiling of up to $1.0 billion. The Mainz-based company disclosed the figures in its quarterly statement, valuing the outlay at €403.5 million as of the end of the third quarter of 2026.

The buyback news landed alongside a separate contractual shift: BioNTech has exercised an option under its collaboration with Roche/Genentech that will, from January 1, 2027, generally assign future research and development costs for the program to its partner. BioNTech retains the right to royalties should development and commercialization succeed.

Revenue Slips on Weaker COVID Demand

Third-quarter 2026 revenue came in at €1,289.2 million, down from €1,518.9 million in the same period a year earlier. Management pinned the decline on softer demand for COVID-19 vaccines. Net profit for the quarter reached €184.5 million — yet across the first nine months of 2026, revenue of €1,512.9 million sits against an IFRS net loss of €1,168.2 million, meaning the quarterly gain has not pulled the year-to-date result into positive territory.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BioNTech?

On guidance, BioNTech lifted the floor of its 2026 revenue forecast to at least €1.7 billion from a previous minimum of €1.6 billion, keeping the upper end at €1.9 billion.

Two Brokers Cut Price Targets, Keep Buy Ratings

Analysts moved on the numbers midweek without changing their overall stance. UBS lowered its price target to $125 from $135 on Wednesday while reaffirming its buy recommendation, according to media reports. Morgan Stanley trimmed its target to $106 from $114 the same day and stayed at "overweight." Both houses pulled in their marks while leaving their constructive investment views intact.

A Modest Win in Breast Cancer

Roughly two weeks ago, BioNTech and DualityBio reported that the DYNASTY-Breast02 breast cancer study had met its primary endpoint. The partners described the improvement in progression-free survival as moderate, however, and flagged the potential patient benefit as possibly limited. They plan to discuss the data before deciding on next steps.

The shares closed Thursday at €76.50, down 5.1% on the day, as a broad Wall Street selloff weighed on technology and artificial-intelligence-linked names. No company-specific trigger for the decline was cited in coverage.
