BioNTech's October Ledger: A Lung-Cancer Signal, a Breast-Cancer Caveat, and a Date With Investors
Published on 11/03/2026 at 02:40 | Editorial boerse-global.deBioNTech has spent October stacking up oncology readouts, and the month's mixed scorecard now hands the narrative to its third-quarter report. The company has slated results for Q3 2026 and a corporate update for 3 November 2026, with a conference call and webcast set for 14:00 Central European Time.
A Measured Win in Lung Cancer
The clearest positive came from the ROSETTA Lung-107 Phase 2 study, run with Bristol Myers Squibb, testing pumitamig in combination with docetaxel. The confirmed objective response rate landed at 36.7%. That figure rests on 30 patients whose data were evaluable for the efficacy analysis.
The trial enrolled patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer who had already received first-line immunotherapy plus chemotherapy. Across the full treated study population, median progression-free survival came in at 6.9 months. In other words, the result describes the post-combination setting rather than a front-line one.
Both partners unveiled the data at the ESMO 2026 congress, held in Madrid from 23 to 27 October. BioNTech had flagged the broader showing on 19 October, announcing that its oncology pipeline would feature in 16 abstracts at the meeting, covering advances in the late-stage portfolio and fresh pumitamig combinations.

A Breast-Cancer Benefit That Fell Short of Enthusiasm
Not every readout carried the same tone. In the Phase 3 DYNASTY-Breast02 trial, trastuzumab pamirtecan, developed with DualityBio, did hit its primary endpoint. The progression-free survival advantage over chemotherapy was statistically significant by the companies' account — but the magnitude was moderate.
Overall survival data had not yet matured. Both partners conceded that the benefit for patients in the current treatment landscape could prove limited, and said they would discuss next steps.
A Missed Endpoint for BNT113
The month's sharpest setback involved BNT113, an experimental mRNA cancer immunotherapy. According to media reports, the Phase 2/3 AHEAD-MERIT study missed the first of its two primary endpoints on 13 October — progression-free survival.

Extending the Pumitamig Franchise Into Breast Cancer
Roughly two weeks before the quarterly update, BioNTech struck a clinical trial collaboration and supply agreement with Gilead Sciences. The pair will study pumitamig alongside Gilead's sacituzumab govitecan in the Phase 3 ROSETTA Breast-01 trial.
Unlike the lung-cancer data just reported, this combination will be tested as a first-line treatment. The study targets patients with locally advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer whose tumors show low or absent PD-L1 expression. BioNTech is set to lead the trial, with Gilead supplying the drug.
