Bayer investors have a crowded calendar to work through. According to a Bloomberg report published Tuesday, the German group faces pivotal decisions over the next two months, with the pending US approval of Asundexian sitting at the top of the list. The stroke-prevention candidate already cleared one major hurdle this week: China's drug regulator NMPA granted approval on Monday for the medicine, which will be marketed there as Sunharbo.

A World-First Label in China

The Chinese green light covers adults who have suffered a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or a high-risk transient ischemic attack, and it is indicated for reducing stroke risk. Bayer described Asundexian as the first factor XIa inhibitor approved anywhere in the world — a claim that gives the company a genuine first-mover position in a novel drug class.

Darolutamid Delivers a 58% Risk Reduction

Fresh clinical evidence arrived over the weekend. On Saturday, Bayer released an interim analysis from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP trial showing that darolutamid, layered on top of androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy, cut the risk of metastases or death by 58% versus placebo in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence. The median follow-up period stood at 3.8 years, per company figures.

Four-year metastasis-free survival reached 95% in the darolutamid arm, compared with 88% in the control group. The risk reduction applied to the combined primary endpoint of metastases or death. One caveat: darolutamid is not yet approved for the treatment setting examined in this study, Bayer noted.

Vividion and Finerenon Add Depth to the Pipeline

Elsewhere in the group, subsidiary Vividion Therapeutics reported its own development milestone. On October 15, the first patient received treatment with VVD-214 plus pembrolizumab in a global Phase II trial, which is evaluating the combination as a first-line therapy for advanced MSI-high or dMMR colorectal cancer.

Bayer also published new analyses from the Phase III FIND-CKD study of finerenon in chronic kidney disease without diabetes. Across the patient groups examined, the company reported consistent effects on proteinuria and loss of kidney function.

Ohio Plant Carries a $2.2 Billion Price Tag

Longer-term ambitions include a new pharmaceutical production site in New Albany, Ohio. Bayer announced an investment of USD 2.2 billion for the facility on October 2, according to media reports. The plans call for roughly 600 permanent jobs, plus about 1,500 positions during the construction phase. The first module is scheduled to come online in 2031, with a second planned for 2034.

Two Banks, Two Very Different Targets

Analysts remain divided on the equity. Michael Leuchten of Jefferies reiterated his hold rating and a price target of EUR 46.00 on Monday, while Richard Vosser of J.P. Morgan reaffirmed his buy recommendation and set a target of EUR 61.00 the same day — a spread that underscores how differently the Street is reading the same pipeline news.

The next scheduled update comes on November 3, 2026, when Bayer publishes third-quarter 2026 results. An investor video call and a media update are planned for the same day.
