Bayer's Two Clocks: A $2.2 Billion Ohio Build-Out and a Quarter That Hasn't Been Reported Yet

Bayer is running its pharmaceutical pipeline and its production ambitions on timelines that stretch years into the future, while the numbers that will actually move the stock sit just weeks away. Investors weighing the German group's recent run of announcements would do well to keep those horizons separate.
The November 3 Anchor
Bayer will publish third-quarter 2026 results on November 3, with an investor video call and a media update attached to the release. That date is the next hard checkpoint for anyone trying to gauge how the operating business is actually performing — and neither regulatory news nor capital markets activity answers that question in advance.
Deutsche Bank Research kept Bayer at "Buy" with a EUR 60 price target on September 29. Analyst Virginie Boucher-Ferte penciled in operating sales growth of 1.3% alongside a 10% decline in operating profit. The combination is a useful reminder that top-line expansion does not automatically translate into a stronger bottom line, and the upcoming report offers the first real chance to test those assumptions against reality.
Shares added 2.0% on Friday, closing at EUR 43.82 — a positive session that nonetheless says nothing about what the quarterly figures will show.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
JPMorgan Sees Quarterly Hopes Running Hot
Two days after Deutsche Bank's note, JPMorgan stuck with "Overweight" and a EUR 61 target. Analyst Richard Vosser argued that early market expectations for the third quarter look too optimistic, pointing to timing effects in the agricultural division as the main culprit. Crucially, he did not expect those effects to shift full-year estimates meaningfully — a distinction that separates a possibly inflated quarterly consensus from the broader annual picture.
Regulatory Wins Are Milestones, Not Revenue
On the drug development front, the FDA accepted Bayer's supplemental application for finerenone, marketed as Kerendia, covering adults with chronic kidney disease who do not have diabetes. The filing rests on positive data from the Phase III FIND-CKD trial. Acceptance, however, is a procedural step — not an approval, and not a sales figure.
Bayer logged further regulatory progress elsewhere in its portfolio. On September 28, the FDA granted priority review to Lynkuet, whose active ingredient is elinzanetant, for moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms in women on endocrine therapy for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. Two days later, Bayer subsidiary BlueRock Therapeutics picked up orphan drug designations from both the FDA and the European Medicines Agency for Lemiretprocel, aimed at primary photoreceptor diseases. Such designations carry no marketing authorization and, on their own, say nothing about future revenue.
Ohio: A Bet on the 2030s
Roughly two weeks ago, Bayer unveiled a USD 2.2 billion investment in a new pharmaceutical production site in New Albany, Ohio, where it expects to create around 600 jobs. The first production module is slated to come online in 2031, the second in 2034 — a schedule that makes the project irrelevant to the imminent earnings release. What it does signal is the long-term orientation of Bayer's pharma operations.
Financing has moved in parallel. On September 23, the group placed hybrid bonds totaling EUR 2 billion across two tranches, with non-call periods of six and nine years. Linking that capital raise directly to the Ohio site would be a stretch; the two steps address different questions — expanding manufacturing capacity on one hand, raising capital on the other.
What Actually Matters Now
Against that backdrop, the operative task for shareholders is straightforward: separate the long arc of pipeline development and plant construction from the quarterly figures Bayer is about to disclose. The November 3 report is where the durability of the recent corporate news flow gets tested.
