Bayer's Pharma Beat Wins Over Two Bulls as Missouri Verdict Looms
Published on 11/06/2026 at 07:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deBayer's third-quarter report has given sell-side analysts fresh reason to sharpen their pencils, with two brokerages lifting their price targets in the space of two days. DZ Bank moved its fair value for the German life-sciences group from EUR 60 to EUR 64 on Wednesday, keeping its "Buy" rating intact. According to media reports, the house pointed to operational stabilisation, debt reduction and progress on the company's US legal risks as the rationale behind the upgrade.
The stock responded in kind, adding 2.6% on Wednesday. Reuters counted Bayer among the most sought-after DAX names, framing the move within a broader market rally that followed the US elections.
UBS Gets There First
DZ Bank's move came a day after UBS raised its own target from EUR 62 to EUR 66 while reaffirming its buy recommendation. Media reports said UBS analyst Matthew Weston highlighted momentum in the pharmaceuticals business and the planned spin-off of rival Corteva. Bayer itself, however, is charting a different course. Chief executive Bill Anderson said on Tuesday, according to Reuters, that a break-up is not currently on the agenda, with the company's focus trained on innovation and trimming debt instead.
That message landed alongside third-quarter 2026 figures showing group revenue of EUR 10.053 billion. EBITDA before special items reached EUR 1.615 billion, an increase of 6.9% on the same quarter a year earlier. On a nominal basis, revenue grew 4.1%; adjusted for currency and portfolio effects, the advance was 1.9%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
Pharma Does the Heavy Lifting
The pharmaceuticals division generated EUR 4.68 billion in the quarter and, by the company's own account, stood as the key driver behind both the better-than-expected group result and the upgraded full-year outlook. Reuters noted that quarterly revenue came in 5% above estimates in the Vara Research survey, and tied the positive share-price reaction to the pharma performance and the raised annual guidance.
Bayer also lifted its outlook for the pharma division's EBITDA margin before special items, now guiding to a range of 25% to 27% for 2026. At group level, the company raised its EBITDA before special items forecast to EUR 9.8 billion to EUR 10.3 billion, up from a previous range of EUR 9.6 billion to EUR 10.1 billion. The guidance assumes constant exchange rates. Reuters attributed the raise to the stronger-than-expected development in the pharmaceutical business. By year-end, Bayer expects net financial debt of EUR 28 billion to EUR 29 billion.
A Courtroom Win in Missouri
On the legal front, Bayer reported a victory for its Monsanto subsidiary on 30 October. A Missouri jury ruled unanimously in favour of the company in the first Roundup case since the US Supreme Court's decision, a result Bayer cast as a success for its US legal position. Media reports said three plaintiffs had argued that the glyphosate-based weedkiller Roundup caused their cancers.
