Bayer's November Earnings Date Looms as JPMorgan Sees Revenue Beating the Street but Profit Lagging

Bayer has a date circled on the calendar: 3 November 2026, when the German life-sciences group will publish its third-quarter results. The press release and quarterly statement are due from 7:30 a.m. CET, and that morning's numbers — not the steady flow of pipeline announcements — will give investors their first hard read on how the underlying business is actually performing.

The run-up to that release has been busy on the news front, though not all of it speaks to near-term earnings. JPMorgan issued a mixed assessment on Friday, projecting revenue 2% above consensus estimates while forecasting EBITDA in the pharmaceuticals and agriculture divisions 6% below it. The brokerage reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating and a price target of 61 euros, and said it expects management to stand by its full-year guidance. The analyst commentary, reported by dpa, contained neither an upgrade nor a downgrade.

That split verdict captures the tension in the Bayer story. A top-line beat would not, on this view, translate automatically into a positive surprise on operating profit, and both figures are forecasts rather than reported results. The reaffirmed price target should not be read as a lift in business expectations, any more than the anticipated guidance confirmation — itself an analyst assumption — amounts to a raised outlook.

A regulatory milestone, not a green light

On the pipeline side, the US Food and Drug Administration accepted Bayer's supplemental application for Finerenone on 8 October, covering the treatment of chronic kidney disease in adults without diabetes. According to the company, the filing rests on positive results from the Phase III FIND-CKD trial. Acceptance marks a further procedural step for this patient group; it is distinct from an approval of the requested indication and does not feed directly into short-term revenue or earnings expectations.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?

The same distinction applies to Bayer's larger manufacturing bet. Roughly two weeks ago the company announced a $2.2 billion investment in a new pharmaceutical production site in New Albany, Ohio, expected to create around 600 jobs. Active-ingredient output is slated to begin in 2031, with finished-drug manufacturing following in 2034 — a timetable that makes the project a long-horizon capacity build rather than a near-term earnings driver. The scale of the outlay matters for valuation, but so does the wait.

Europe's fields lag behind

Bayer also commissioned a study, published on Thursday, that puts weak European arable-farming output growth under the microscope. The findings place the continent behind major agricultural markets including the US, Brazil, China, Canada and India. For investors, the research supplies sector context rather than evidence about Bayer's own performance: it describes agricultural production trends and offers no direct read-through to the company's sales or earnings, nor any concrete forecast for the group.

Two levels therefore need to be kept apart — the long-term growth potential of the agricultural market, which the study addresses, and the operating performance of the company, which the quarterly figures will test. Neither the European comparison nor the Ohio plant substitutes for a look at current trading. Finerenone's procedural advance and JPMorgan's positive rating likewise do not erase the expected gap between revenue and operating profit.

Bayer at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Until 3 November, the central takeaway is that clinical progress and a constructive analyst stance do not, on their own, signal higher operating earnings ahead.
