Bayer’s Latest Market Test Is Not in the Lab, but on November 3
Published on 10/15/2026 at 09:42 | Editorial boerse-global.deBayer is getting a stream of encouraging news from its pharmaceutical pipeline and long-term investment plans, but neither of those will answer the question investors are focused on now: what happens to third-quarter earnings expectations when the company reports on 3 November 2026.
That distinction matters because the short-term picture has clearly shifted. Media reports on Tuesday put expected earnings per share at EUR 0.41, down from EUR 0.52 in early August. Those are analyst forecasts, not Bayer’s own published results, and the lower estimate has been linked to possible timing shifts in the agribusiness division rather than to a more lasting deterioration.
JPMorgan had already signaled some caution around the quarter. About two weeks ago, it left Bayer at “Overweight” with a EUR 61 price target, while analyst Richard Vosser said market expectations for the third quarter could be too high. He pointed to a time-related effect in agriculture and, at the same time, said he did not expect major changes to full-year estimates.
The company’s next update is scheduled for 3 November 2026 at 07:30 CET, with the earnings call set for 14:00 CET. For investors, that will be the moment to see whether the weaker forecast reflects a simple shift between reporting periods or something more durable in operations.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
The recent move in the shares did not have one clearly identified trigger, but media reports said both the strength of the pharma sector and Bayer’s own announcements helped support the stock yesterday. The shares were up 1.9% today, which fits that friendlier tone without revealing anything about the actual quarterly numbers to come.
One of those announcements was the FDA’s acceptance, about a week ago, of Bayer’s supplemental application for Finerenon as a treatment for chronic kidney disease without diabetes. Bayer said the filing is based on positive results from the phase III FIND-CKD study. The step moves the review process forward, but it is still only a regulatory milestone, not an approval.
A separate pharma-related development has a much longer horizon. Roughly two weeks ago, Bayer announced plans to invest USD 2.2 billion in a pharmaceutical manufacturing site in New Albany, Ohio, with around 600 new jobs. The first production area is expected to go into operation in 2031. That project is a bet on future capacity, not a driver of the upcoming quarter.

Bayer also said yesterday that five researchers received the Science Awards 2026. Sarah O’Connor won the Otto Bayer Prize, and for the first time an award for plant science was presented as well. The honors underline scientific progress, but they do not offer any clue about near-term earnings.
The same is true of the firm’s broader pipeline and manufacturing ambitions. They may shape the business over time, yet the next real check on Bayer’s performance will come when the company explains whether the revised earnings expectations stem from timing effects in agriculture or from something more persistent. Until then, the numbers on the table are still only forecasts.
