Bayer's Courtroom Fight and Kidney Data Share a Calendar, Not a Cause

Latham Quality pushed back on October 19 against Bayer CropScience's bid to dismiss a U.S. antitrust suit over the corn seed market, according to media reports. The plaintiff's filing contests the dismissal motion — it reflects the claimant's position, not a finding by the court.

That legal skirmish lands alongside a busy stretch of pipeline news and sell-side recalibration, all of it building toward a single date: November 3, when Bayer releases its third-quarter 2026 report.

Kidney data cut two ways

Bayer on Thursday published fresh subgroup analyses from the Phase III FIND-CKD trial of Finerenon. In patients with FSGS, albuminuria fell 40% versus placebo after twelve months, while proteinuria dropped 41% over the same period. The work covers chronic kidney disease without diabetes, and Bayer said the analyses pointed to kidney-protective effects against placebo across several patient groups, IgAN among them.

The findings, presented at ASN Kidney Week 2026, also tracked proteinuria and loss of kidney function relative to placebo. Roughly two weeks earlier, the FDA had accepted Bayer's supplemental application for Finerenon, a filing built on FIND-CKD results.

A prostate readout with a combined endpoint

Separately, Bayer released an interim analysis from a Phase III trial of Darolutamid, testing the drug alongside androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence. The risk of metastases or death fell 58% versus placebo — a figure tied to the composite endpoint of metastases or death, not to either outcome on its own.

Agronomy, competition and a downbeat EBITDA call

On the agricultural side, Bayer unveiled a commissioned study on global farm competition on October 15. Its verdict: the EU and the UK risk falling further behind, with the company pointing to slower growth in crop production than in several major agricultural markets and calling for faster access to innovation.

UBS analyst Matthew Weston left Bayer at "Buy" with a EUR 62 price target on October 15, ahead of the quarterly numbers, describing the weakness in the agricultural unit as already well known. He expects agricultural trends to hold up through 2026 and 2027, while momentum in the pharmaceuticals business is likely to have stalled.

JPMorgan, for its part, reaffirmed "Overweight" and a EUR 61 target on October 16. Analyst Richard Vosser penciled in EBITDA about 6% below the market consensus, though he still looked for the company to stand by its full-year guidance.

The November 3 diary

Bayer has scheduled the third-quarter 2026 statement for 07:30 CET on November 3, with a results presentation the same day. A media update is set for 10:00, followed by an investor conference at 14:00 CET.
