Bawag Earns Fresh Price-Target Boosts as Two Key Catalysts Approach
Published on 10/17/2026 at 06:03 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo brokerage houses have raised their price targets on BAWAG Group within days of each other, offering a vote of confidence just as the Austrian lender prepares to publish quarterly results and faces a High Court hearing over its planned acquisition of Permanent TSB.
Oddo BHF confirmed its "Outperform" rating on Tuesday and lifted its target to 188.0 euros from 175.0 euros. That followed Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, which on the previous day raised its own target to 190.0 euros from 188.30 euros while keeping the same "Outperform" recommendation. Neither move came with a fresh earnings forecast for the company, and neither firm offered a detailed operating rationale for the higher marks in the coverage.
The stock closed at 167.20 euros on the day before Oddo BHF's revision and at 168.20 euros in the session referenced by KBW — both below the newly set targets. The gap reflects the familiar distance between market pricing and analyst estimates, not a promise of where the shares will trade.
Q3 Report Lands October 19
The next test of the operating story arrives on October 19, when third-quarter figures are scheduled for release. The upgraded targets do not pre-empt that print; investors still need to weigh the analysts' view separately from the numbers the bank has yet to disclose.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bawag PSK?
On the deal front, BAWAG has cleared one regulatory obstacle in its pursuit of Permanent TSB, though court approval is still outstanding. The Irish Takeover Panel on Monday rejected complaints lodged by Axis Capital, finding no basis for a breach of Irish takeover rules. That ruling addresses the objections only — it does not remove the remaining conditions attached to the transaction.
Axis Capital has said it is weighing a possible cash offer of 3.20 euros per Permanent TSB share, above the 2.97 euros per share BAWAG has agreed to pay. According to an Irish Times report dated October 2, the suitor had yet to secure financing for such a bid. Permanent TSB has described the Axis statement as speculative and conditional. Axis filed a supplementary note on Monday, but no binding offer has been announced.
Court Date Set for October 27
Permanent TSB said on October 9 that it had received neither contact nor a proposal from Scotchstone Capital, while reaffirming that it continues to work with BAWAG P.S.K. on the remaining conditions of the takeover plan. The High Court hearing on judicial approval is scheduled for October 27.
Bawag PSK at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
For shareholders, the picture splits cleanly in two. On one side sits improved analyst sentiment, expressed through higher targets. On the other stands a transaction that still hinges on a court ruling and on whether a rival's expressed interest ever hardens into a firm, fully funded bid.
