Bawag Draws Twin Analyst Upgrades as PTSB Court Date and Q3 Print Converge
Published on 10/17/2026 at 04:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo brokerage houses have raised their price targets on Bawag Group inside two days, lending the Austrian lender fresh analyst support just as its takeover of Permanent TSB heads for a decisive court hearing and its third-quarter results come into view.
Oddo BHF lifted its target to 188.0 euros from 175.0 euros on Tuesday, keeping its "Outperform" rating unchanged. Keefe, Bruyette & Woods had moved a day earlier, nudging its own target to 190.0 euros from 188.30 euros while reaffirming the same "Outperform" stance. Neither revision alters the underlying recommendation — only the bar the analysts now expect the stock to clear.
The shares last changed hands at 168.20 euros, leaving them below both new targets. That gap reflects the distance between market pricing and analyst estimates rather than any promise of future gains, and it says nothing about the earnings Bawag has yet to report.
Two Dates Frame the Weeks Ahead
Bawag publishes its third-quarter 2026 results on 19 October, with a conference call scheduled for 10:00 CEST, according to the company. The figures will shift attention back to operating performance after a period dominated by deal news.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bawag PSK?
Five days later, on 27 October, the Irish High Court is due to hear the application for judicial approval of the PTSB acquisition. Alongside the quarterly numbers, that hearing is the concrete next checkpoint for shareholders.
The two events answer different questions. The earnings release supplies hard business data; the takeover still hinges on outstanding approvals and on whether rival expressions of interest harden into firm bids. The higher targets from Oddo BHF and KBW do not prejudge either outcome.
Takeover Panel Sides With Bawag
The Irish Takeover Panel on Monday rejected complaints filed by Axis Capital, finding no basis for a breach of Irish takeover rules. The ruling clears the objections themselves but leaves the court's sanction of the scheme as a condition still to be met — a distinction that matters, since the dismissal does not remove every remaining hurdle.
Bawag agreed to buy the Irish bank for 1.62 billion euros, or 2.97 euros per PTSB share. Axis Capital said on 5 October that it was weighing a possible all-cash offer of 3.20 euros per share, and repeated that intention on Monday. It has not submitted a binding bid, and PTSB stressed that no offer has been made.
Bawag PSK at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
PTSB has dismissed the Axis statement as highly speculative and conditional, and says its planned sale to Bawag remains on track. The Irish Times also reported that PTSB shareholder Scotchstone signalled interest in a possible offer on 9 October; PTSB said on that date it had received neither contact nor proposal from Scotchstone Capital, while confirming it was working with Bawag on the remaining conditions of the scheme.
For now, the rival interest amounts to a declaration of intent — not a lodged offer, and not a change of control in the making.
