Bawag Braces for Q3 Print as Takeover Saga and Analyst Upgrade Collide
Published on 10/17/2026 at 04:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deBawag investors face a busy calendar: third-quarter 2026 results land on Monday, October 19, with an earnings call scheduled for 10:00 CEST featuring CEO Anas Abuzaakouk and CFO Enver Sirucic. The print arrives just days after Oddo BHF lifted its price target and the Irish Takeover Panel threw out complaints against the bank's planned purchase of Permanent TSB.
Oddo BHF raises its marker
Oddo BHF confirmed its "Outperform" rating on Bawag on Tuesday and nudged its price target up from EUR 175.0 to EUR 188.0, according to media reports. The upgrade came ahead of the quarterly release — a vote of confidence, though hardly a verdict on numbers yet to be published.
The shares closed yesterday at EUR 167.20, leaving them below Oddo's new target. That gap frames the analyst's view without proving any concrete price reaction to the target hike.
Complaints dismissed, but the deal isn't done
The Irish Takeover Panel on Monday rejected objections from Axis Capital concerning the sale of Permanent TSB to Bawag, ruling that the complaints did not establish any breach of takeover rules. The decision clears one specific dispute — it does not confirm completion of the transaction.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bawag PSK?
The agreed takeover, worth EUR 1.62 billion, still requires approval from the Irish High Court. PTSB said on October 5 that the Bawag deal remains on track and dismissed a possible counterbid from Axis Capital as "highly speculative and conditional." Axis has said it is weighing an offer.
The numbers behind the competing interest: Axis Capital floated a potential cash bid of EUR 3.20 per share on October 5, against the EUR 2.97 per share Bawag agreed to pay. PTSB stressed that Axis has made no formal offer. Separately, The Irish Times reported that PTSB shareholder Scotchstone signalled interest in a bid on October 9.
Two questions, one calendar
For shareholders, three threads need to be kept apart: Oddo's higher valuation, the dismissed complaints, and the imminent business figures. The first supports the bullish analyst stance; the Panel ruling addresses a single point of contention. The quarterly report is now expected to deliver the next look at operating momentum.
Bawag PSK at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The earnings date and the takeover developments bear on different parts of the valuation — results speak to business performance, while the PTSB news concerns the planned acquisition. Monday's earnings call does not by itself guarantee any statement on the takeover questions.
