Atlassian's Rovo Crosses One Million Users — and the Numbers Behind That Milestone Are Doing the Heavy Lifting

Atlassian's Q4 beats estimates, but Rovo's 1M+ users and 20% workflow boost prove AI is a retention tool, easing cannibalization fears.

When a software company's stock leaps 35% after earnings, the reflexive assumption is that the quarter was simply better than expected. With Atlassian, that's true — but it's only half the story. The more consequential development buried in the August 6 report is that Rovo, the company's AI assistant, has quietly become a retention tool rather than a replacement risk.

The fear that has dogged the sector for months is straightforward: if AI chatbots can write code and organize workflows, why would enterprises keep paying for project management subscriptions? Atlassian's fourth-quarter results offer a counterargument, and investors responded with unusual force. The stock jumped 35.2% in after-hours trading immediately following the release.

The quarter in numbers

Revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter of 2026 came in at $1.77 billion, up 28% year over year and comfortably ahead of the $1.66 billion consensus. Adjusted earnings per share of $1.87 beat the $1.50 analysts had penciled in. Cloud revenue grew 31% to $1.213 billion — five percentage points ahead of the company's own guidance.

For the full fiscal year, Atlassian posted revenue of $6.572 billion. The net loss narrowed to $53.8 million, while operating income swung to a positive $10 million from a $130 million loss the prior year — a return to GAAP profitability, albeit a narrow one. Free cash flow reached $1.319 billion, a 20% margin.

The forward guidance tells a more measured story. For the current first quarter, management projected revenue between $1.705 billion and $1.715 billion. That's solid, but it lacks the fireworks of the quarter just reported — a gap that some analysts have flagged as the reason to temper expectations even as they raise price targets.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Atlassian?

Rovo: the metric that matters

The headline number that has shifted the debate is Rovo's user base. Atlassian reported that more than one million users now engage with the AI assistant, with usage up over 50% quarter over quarter. More than 80% of Fortune 500 companies are now using it.

The company's internal data suggests Rovo isn't just an add-on — it's a growth accelerant. Customers using Rovo complete 20% more Jira workflows and grow ARR more than twice as fast as those who don't. That's the kind of statistic that directly rebuts the cannibalization thesis, at least for Atlassian's own business.

The enterprise pipeline supports the same conclusion. Atlassian reported its largest enterprise deal in company history with one of the world's biggest consumer technology firms, along with record quarters for deals above $1 million, $3 million, and $5 million in annual contract value. Customers spending over $5 million in ARR grew more than 70%. Subscription ARR reached $6.606 billion, up 23%, while remaining performance obligations grew 44% to $4.817 billion — a sign that large organizations are committing long term rather than testing the waters.

A founder's bet and a product hire

Two personnel moves accompanied the results, each carrying its own signal. Ken Exner, who previously held leadership roles in search, observability, and security at Amazon Web Services and Elastic, joined as Chief Product Officer for enterprise and emerging products. The hire suggests Atlassian intends to push beyond its core project management franchise.

More striking is the financial commitment from co-founder and CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes, who announced plans to buy up to $250 million worth of Atlassian shares in the open market. A founder adding personal capital after a sharp rally is a statement that no analyst note can replicate.

Wall Street rewrites its targets

The analyst response was remarkably uniform. Jefferies' Brent Thill raised his price target to $200 from $150, describing the setup as attractive for reacceleration in fiscal 2028 with a path to at least 20% overall revenue growth. Bank of America upgraded the stock to Buy from Neutral with a $175 target, explicitly framing the move as a rebuttal to the bear case that had dominated sentiment for much of the year.

Atlassian at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

FBN Securities kept its Outperform rating but lifted its target aggressively from $110 to $170. Truist moved to $160. Baird, KeyBanc, Guggenheim, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, Citi, and others followed with targets ranging from $145 to $200. TD Cowen held at Hold, a lone voice of caution in an otherwise synchronized re-rating.

The technical picture gives pause

For all the fundamental momentum, the chart has gotten ahead of itself. In German trading, the stock sits at €133.80, up 1.06% on the day, with a 30-day gain of 58.34%. The secondary source puts the close at €132.40 with a 2.80% daily gain and a 30-day advance of 56.69%. Either way, the move has been steep enough to push the 14-day RSI to roughly 79 — a level that typically signals overbought conditions and consolidation ahead. The stock now trades 15.40% below its 52-week high of €158.16, a gap that reflects how deep the earlier drawdown was rather than any current weakness.

The operational cadence, meanwhile, continues quietly in the background: the Jira Summer 2026 release is rolling out, cloud products are being refined, and support for the legacy Connect interface has been extended from December 2026 to the end of January 2027. It's the combination of a large AI narrative and granular product maintenance that distinguishes this moment — and suggests the rally rests on more than sentiment alone.
