ASML's €44 Billion Floor Is the Easy Part — Delivery and Pricing Are the Hard Part

ASML narrowed its 2026 sales guidance to €44-45 billion and said demand will outstrip supply in 2027-2028, with price increases starting in 2027.

ASML has spent the past week telling investors two things that pull in the same direction but travel at very different speeds. Demand for its machines will outrun what the company can build through 2027 and 2028, and prices will start climbing from 2027, with the full benefit only landing in 2028. Neither statement, on its own, converts into a revenue figure.

The Dutch chip-equipment maker lifted its 2026 sales guidance to €44 billion to €45 billion, up from the €43 billion to €45 billion it had previously flagged. The floor moved; the ceiling did not. That is a narrower corridor, not a bigger one, and investors should read it as greater confidence in the base case rather than a promise of extra business above the old high mark.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, ASML is guiding to revenue of €14.2 billion to €15.2 billion. That is a forecast, distinct from money already booked.

Where the Demand Meets a Ceiling

Management said roughly a week ago that planned supply will not fully cover customer demand in 2027 and 2028 — a remark that Reuters reported alongside a rise in the shares and growing confidence in AI-driven semiconductor demand. The order book is not the problem. The factory floor is.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML Holding?

To close the gap, ASML is pursuing several levers at once: adding capacity, upgrading installed tools, and shipping machine versions with higher throughput. It is also weighing an expansion beyond the 30% capacity increase it had already communicated. New buildings, though, offer no quick relief — capacity from potential new construction is realistically available from 2029, not 2028, according to media reports citing CFO Roger Dassen.

Each lever works differently on the numbers. A higher price lifts revenue per tool sold. More throughput improves performance at the customer's site first. Neither yields a specific revenue or profit figure on its own.

Pricing Power With a Lag

Dassen's comments, reported by Reuters, put the first price increases in 2027 and the full effect a year later. The gap between the two matters: investors should not book the entire pricing effect into the first year, and the size of the increases cannot be derived from his remarks.

The financial starting point is solid. ASML reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of €11.7 billion and net profit of €5.0 billion.

ASML Holding at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Shareholder returns are running in parallel. Under its current buyback programme, the company disclosed the purchase of 233,867 shares for a total of €352,032,719. That documents execution of the programme; it says nothing about the strength of the order pipeline.

What ties the pieces together is a distinction investors keep blurring. Demand creates the opportunity, but delivery capacity and pricing determine how much of it reaches the top line. Higher prices complement the capacity build-out — they do not remove its timing constraints.
