Tungsten producer Almonty Industries is drawing fresh attention from market participants, though not because of any single corporate announcement. Instead, the spotlight has shifted to the company's operational progress in South Korea and its role in building out Western supply chains for the critical metal.

The share price has been anything but calm. After climbing 10.3% on September 8 without any accompanying company news, the stock gave back 6.3% during Thursday's session. By Friday it had slipped another 6.1% to close at EUR 13.40, hovering just above its 50-day moving average of EUR 13.34. Over a seven-session stretch, the decline adds up to 11%, even as the stock still boasts a gain of 69% year-to-date. Media reports found no company-specific catalyst behind either the surge or the subsequent pullback, pointing instead to a blend of sentiment, persistent analyst tailwinds, and operational momentum at Sangdong.

From Development to Production

The Sangdong project remains the operational centerpiece. In July, the facility began processing activities aimed at producing saleable tungsten concentrate — a milestone that marks Almonty's transition from a pure development story to a regular production operation. That framing comes from accompanying coverage rather than a standalone company release, but it aligns with the broader perception that Almonty is advancing on the operational front while its share price stays volatile.

Management has been active on the capital markets side as well. Roughly a month ago, Almonty announced a share buyback program running three years, under which it may repurchase up to USD 300 million worth of stock.

Institutional interest is also building. The Public Employees Retirement System of Ohio reported a new position of 109,121 Almonty shares for the second quarter of 2026, valued at approximately USD 1.81 million. Moves of this kind by large public pension funds are often read as a sign of growing institutional confidence, even if they cannot by themselves explain short-term price action.

Analysts Stay Constructive

On the analyst front, the emphasis falls squarely on resource security. Jefferies Financial Group initiated coverage on September 2 with a Buy rating and a price target of USD 26.25, citing the company's positioning in the build-out of a Western tungsten supply chain. A day earlier, reports had flagged raised price targets from firms including Oppenheimer and DA Davidson, keeping the market consensus firmly in positive territory. As of September 1, five analysts covered the stock with a consensus Buy rating and an average twelve-month price target of USD 27.00 — a level well above current trading.

Observers view the diversification of global sourcing for critical metals as a lasting structural argument for the company.

Technicals and the Road Ahead

The stock's technical picture shows a neutral to slightly oversold condition. Annualized 30-day volatility stands at 75%, with an RSI of 43, after the shares moved roughly 35% below their 52-week high of EUR 20.61, set on April 17. Pre-market, the stock was quoted at EUR 13.62, and it remains up 71% since the start of the year.

For the months ahead, market participants will be watching how quickly production at Sangdong can scale commercially. A smooth ramp-up of concentrate output would go a long way toward underpinning the fundamental valuation. Setbacks on the timeline, on the other hand, could keep the trading venues jittery. The recent institutional buying and the still-positive analyst view suggest at least part of the market is already betting that the operational story will eventually overshadow the short-term swings.
