The Munich-based insurer is doing something unusual these days: spending heavily on growth while its shares hover within striking distance of an all-time high. Allianz's acquisition spree — spanning Singapore, Portugal, Australia and eight Asian markets — has coincided with a boardroom overhaul and a fresh wave of analyst price-target hikes that collectively tell a more nuanced story than the headline numbers suggest.

A Shrinking Board With a Bigger Mandate

The corporate reshuffle announced in late July will trim the executive board from nine members to eight, with Günther Thallinger departing at year-end. His responsibilities for global health insurance and investment management are being redistributed: Andreas Wimmer, previously in charge of asset management, adds investment management to his remit, while Renate Wagner takes on the Germany, Switzerland and Central and Eastern Europe regions alongside her existing HR and M&A duties.

Tomas Kunzmann, who has led Allianz Partners since mid-2022, will join the board on January 1, 2027, with oversight of the Asia-Pacific region including India, global health and sustainability. The timing is no accident — the group is coming off its most profitable quarter ever, with operating profit of €4.9 billion in Q2.

A Shopping List Stretching From Singapore to Sydney

The largest single transaction is the €2.1 billion acquisition of HSBC Life Singapore, paired with a long-term distribution agreement with HSBC and expected to close in the first half of 2027. But the dealmaking extends well beyond the city-state.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

Through its Allianz Global Investors arm, the company is paying S$555 million (roughly €376 million) for UOB Asset Management, which manages €28 billion in assets. That acquisition lifts AllianzGI's regional assets under management to more than €170 billion. Smaller but strategically pointed moves include the €150 million purchase of Portugal's Caravela and a deal worth up to A$50 million to acquire the travel insurance business of Australia-New Zealand's nib Group through Allianz Partners. The group is also simplifying its PIMCO holding structure by buying back outstanding M-units for cash.

Wall Street's Measured Applause

JPMorgan's decision to lift its price target from €430 to €460 — while keeping a "Neutral" rating — captures the prevailing mood among analysts. The 30-euro increase reflects respect for the operating momentum, but the unchanged rating signals that much of the good news is already in the price.

The shares closed Wednesday at €450.40, just 0.5 percent below the 52-week high of €452.80 set last month. The stock has gained 15 percent since the start of the year and 24 percent over the past twelve months, leaving it 16 percent above its 200-day moving average — a technical picture that underscores how far and how fast the rally has run.

Record Fundamentals, Ambitious Valuation

The analyst optimism traces back to the first-half results published in early August: operating profit of €9.4 billion on business volume of €98.6 billion, with the full-year outlook confirmed. RBC had already raised its estimates earlier in the month, and JPMorgan's move extends that pattern.

The tension between rising price targets and cautious ratings reflects a market that sees the Allianz story as intact but increasingly fully priced. The next test comes on November 12, when the group reports third-quarter and nine-month figures — an opportunity to show whether the acquisition pipeline is already feeding through to the numbers. For now, the strategic direction is clear, but the valuation leaves little margin for error.
