Allianz Lines Up Greek Bancassurance Venture, Fund Merger and German Sales Handover
Published on 10/20/2026 at 09:40 | Editorial boerse-global.deAllianz has set three separate pieces of housekeeping in motion — a minority stake sale in Greece, a fund consolidation and a leadership change in its German sales operation — each sitting at a different stage of completion. For investors, the common thread is timing: one measure takes effect today, another awaits regulatory clearance, and a third remains a signed contract rather than a closed transaction.
Greece: stake sale and distribution pact signed October 14
Under a binding share purchase agreement inked on October 14, the National Bank of Greece will acquire a 30% minority interest in Allianz European Reliance, also known as Allianz Greece. The same partners agreed a long-term exclusive bancassurance arrangement, concluded between the bank and Allianz Greece.
The two elements belong to a single project but carry different conditions. Closing of the share purchase remains subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the partnership is expected to launch in early 2027. A signed contract, in other words, does not yet equal a completed stake sale — a distinction that matters when weighing the deal.
Fund lineup trimmed as Allianz Global Investors consolidates
On the product side, Allianz Global Investors is merging Allianz Food Security and Allianz Positive Change into Allianz Clean Planet today, folding previously separate offerings into one vehicle. The step concerns the asset manager's fund range and is unrelated to the insurance distribution changes.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?
German policyholders saw a separate product refresh on October 12, when Allianz Versicherungs-AG introduced a new household contents insurance with four tariff tiers, available for both new business and replacement policies. Optional add-on modules and varying deductibles round out the choice. Where the fund merger bundles offerings, the revamped contents cover leans on flexibility within a single product.
Kupke to take German sales boards; Wiesemann retires
Allianz Deutschland said on October 7 that Sören Kupke is to head the sales boards of Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG and Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG from January 1, 2027. His appointment is subject to the customary supervisory authority fit-and-proper review. Thomas Wiesemann will leave both boards on December 31, 2026 and retire.
The personnel move and the Greek agreement stand as independent measures. What links them is distribution: an exclusive bank partnership abroad, and future board responsibility at the German life and health insurers at home.

Third-quarter figures due November 12
The next scheduled look at the group's trading comes on November 12, 2026, when Allianz plans to publish third-quarter 2026 results at 7:00. Until then, the Greek venture rests on the framework already agreed: purchase contract and exclusive cooperation signed, with the stake acquisition still pending satisfaction of the agreed conditions.
