Aixtron shares climbed 5.4% to close at €30.36, catching the tail end of a broader recovery in European semiconductor names. Reuters reported that the sell-off in European AI and technology stocks eased into the week's close, lifting the MDAX-listed equipment maker along with the wider sector.

The rebound followed a rough Thursday, when an AI-related rout swept up Aixtron. According to dpa-AFX, investors fretted over tighter data-centre rules and possible build-out delays in the wake of the US midterm elections. Media reports noted the countermove also carried suppliers Applied Materials and KLA Corporation higher.

Order Intake More Than Doubles

The stock's bounce has a fundamental backdrop. Aixtron booked €274.9 million in orders in the third quarter of 2026, against €124.0 million in the same period a year earlier — a 122% surge. For the first nine months of 2026, orders reached €660.9 million.

Management flagged demand from AI-driven applications as a key driver and said it expected to hold or further increase the elevated order level in the coming quarters. Third-quarter revenue came in at €183.6 million, with the order backlog at €549.4 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Aixtron?

For 2026, Aixtron reaffirmed revenue guidance of €560 million, give or take €30 million. The company targets a gross margin of around 42% and an EBIT margin of 17% to 20%. dpa-AFX also reported that Aixtron struck an optimistic tone on 2027.

Two Upgrades, Two Targets

Analysts have been recalibrating. Kepler Cheuvreux raised Aixtron to "Buy" from "Hold" on Monday, media reports said, while leaving its €44 price target untouched. Deutsche Bank had already moved to "Buy" from "Hold" on 30 October, setting a €42 target.

The upgrades sit alongside more cautious tinkering elsewhere. JPMorgan cut its price target to €52.50 from €54 on Monday after the quarterly figures, keeping an "Overweight" rating. Jefferies reiterated "Buy" with an unchanged €44 target, pointing to cloud and data-centre infrastructure spending as the sector's engine and citing Aixtron's power semiconductor orders.

Execution Is the Test

The bullish case now rests less on sentiment and more on whether the order surge converts into revenue. A friendlier technology backdrop can lift a share price in the short run; a doubling order book offers a firmer foundation — provided Aixtron works through the backlog as planned. That execution, rather than the size of any price target, is where the new optimism will be measured.
