Two analysts, one set of first-half figures, and a date circled on the calendar. That is the short version of where 2G Energy stands as investors wait for third-quarter revenue and EBIT, scheduled for release on November 23.

The gap between the two camps is unusually wide. SMC Research lifted its rating from "Buy" to "Strong Buy" on Monday and nudged its price target from EUR 80 to EUR 82. Parmantier & Cie. went the other way on October 15, sticking with a "Sell" call and a EUR 39.00 target.

What separates the two calls

SMC analyst Holger Steffen argued that the recent pullback was overdone, pointing to concrete orders in hand. He traced the weakness to broader worries about whether the AI infrastructure boom can last. General doubts about an investment trend, his reasoning goes, are not the same thing as an assessment of orders already booked.

The upgrade rests on more than that. SMC cited a strong order intake and an expected sharp acceleration in business momentum during the second half. The optimistic case, in other words, looks forward rather than back — it leans on what is expected to arrive, not on what has already been earned.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying 2G Energy?

Parmantier & Cie. fixed its attention on the starting point. The house pointed to a weak first half and the steep demands placed on the remaining six months. By its reckoning, 2G would have to generate 98% of its forecast 2026 EBIT in the second half alone.

The half-year report sets the bar

Those competing views have a common reference point: the 2026 half-year report published roughly a week ago. Revenue came in at EUR 136.0 million, with EBIT of just EUR 0.8 million.

That thin profit base is why the coming quarters carry so much weight in the valuation debate. A healthy order book supports growth expectations, but whether it translates into the margins investors are being promised is a separate question.

Management used the report to reaffirm its full-year targets. For 2026, the board continues to guide toward revenue at the upper end of a EUR 440 million to EUR 490 million range, with an expected EBIT margin of 9.5% to 10.5%.

Those are objectives, not results already banked. The distinction matters because it is precisely where the two analyst camps part ways.

Insider buying adds a third signal

Monday also brought news that SHH Spring Hunter Holdings GmbH, connected to supervisory board member Lukas Lenz, had purchased shares. Such buying points to confidence on the purchaser's side, though it does not independently prove that the earnings targets are within reach.

2G Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The stock's moves have been sharp. It showed a daily change of -7.3% in one reading and -4.8% in another. Neither figure settles the argument. The sell recommendation issued last week explains an earlier slump, but it is not a documented trigger for the latest move — and SMC's upgrade, framed as a response to the recent correction, does not explain it either.

November 23 is the next checkpoint

What investors get on November 23 is revenue and EBIT for the third quarter of 2026, along with information on business development. That gives a firm date for the next test of expectations against actual numbers.

Until then, the debate comes down to how much weight to place on the reasoning behind each call. A high order intake and demanding profit targets are two sides of the same valuation question. Concrete orders answer whether the business opportunities exist; they do not automatically answer how much profit those opportunities will produce. For 2G, confidence has to be made good by results.
