XRP’s Real-World Adoption Milestone Overshadowed by Network Upgrade Gridlock and Stubborn Price Slide

The XRP ecosystem is carving out a new identity beyond cross-border payments. Made In USA Inc., an American logistics firm, has begun using the XRP Ledger to store certificates of authenticity on-chain, allowing consumers to verify the provenance of domestic goods. The move marks a strategic pivot toward supply-chain traceability for Ripple’s blockchain. Yet even as real-world use cases expand, the network’s own infrastructure is struggling to keep pace.
A critical software update, version 3.2.0, has fractured the validator community. While 89% of official validators have installed the patch, fewer than half of all active nodes are running the current software. That leaves key security fixes in limbo — a central governance proposal remains stuck at a 40% approval threshold. The synchronization gap raises operational risk for exchanges and custodians that depend on a uniformly updated network.
On the legal front, Ripple is pushing for a final reckoning with the SEC. Early July, the company filed a document arguing that any penalty in the long-running lawsuit should not exceed $10 million. The move is an attempt to cap the financial fallout from the case, but the market has taken little comfort. XRP trades at $1.09, a staggering 70% below its 52-week high of $3.65 set in July 2025. The token has shed more than 42% year-to-date and over 53% over the past 12 months.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Institutional interest tells a more nuanced story. After eight consecutive weeks of strong inflows into US XRP spot ETFs, the funds saw a brief reversal. But the most recent week brought a net inflow of $17.19 million, extending the streak to nine weeks. Cumulative inflows since launch now stand at roughly $1.48 billion, with June alone contributing over $62 million — a sign that institutional buyers are still accumulating despite the sour market mood.
That accumulation has done little to lift the spot price. On Wednesday, XRP slipped below $1.10 for the fourth straight session, pressured by geopolitical jitters and a broad retreat from risk assets. Bitcoin stalled at $62,898 after failing to clear $64,000, while Ethereum remained pinned below its 50-day moving average. The weighted sentiment indicator for XRP, tracked by Santiment, dropped to its lowest since October 2025 — though the analytics firm notes that the token’s strongest recoveries have historically started when the crowd had already given up.
On-chain data reveals a widening rift between large and small holders. The whale-versus-retail spread across centralized exchanges stands at 50.9%, and at Binance it is 44.6%, indicating that big players are moving tokens off exchanges while retail participants hesitate. At the same time, daily new-wallet creations hit a three-month high, suggesting that fresh network activity is percolating even as the price languishes.
From a technical perspective, XRP is trapped in a tight range. The 50-day moving average sits at $1.18, the 200-day at $1.47 — about 26% above current levels. Immediate support lies at $1.14 to $1.145, with a break below opening the door to $1.142 and then $1.133. Resistance clusters near $1.155 and $1.17 to $1.20. A sustained move above $1.20 would shift attention toward the $1.29–$1.30 zone, where previous selloffs originated. Until then, the battle between buyers and sellers remains confined to the $1.14–$1.20 corridor, and the network’s upgrade gridlock hangs over any bullish narrative.
