June is shaping up as a month of two distinct but complementary updates for the XRP Ledger, even as the token itself trades near its lowest levels of the year. Ripple kicked off the period by unveiling the XRPL AI Starter Kit on June 10, a developer package designed to let autonomous software agents send, receive and track payments on the ledger without human sign-off at every step. Then, on June 15, the network is set to activate version 3.2.0, a technical upgrade that slashes node memory requirements and renames the core server software from "rippled" to "xrpld."

The price action, however, tells a different story. XRP is changing hands at roughly $1.13, a modest three percent gain on the day but a staggering 69 percent below its 52-week high of $3.65, set in July 2025. Year-to-date the token has shed nearly 40 percent of its value, and the relative strength index stands at 34 — firmly in oversold territory. The market has largely shrugged at both developments, a reaction analysts say is typical for infrastructure-level releases that take time to drive real adoption.

The AI Starter Kit targets what Ripple calls "agentic payment flows." It includes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server serving XRPL documentation, wallet and payment functions for the AI assistant Claude, and a new set of documentation pages for agentic transactions. A standout feature is X402 support, which lets XRPL-based agents pay for — and receive payment for — HTTP-like service calls, settling in either XRP or Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD. Applications range from API requests to AI model inference. According to Ripple's tutorial, developers can go from wallet setup to a confirmed XRP payment on the testnet in about 30 minutes.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

Why the XRP Ledger for autonomous agents? Ripple points to execution finality: transactions confirm or fail within three to five seconds, eliminating the ambiguous pending states that trip up automated logic. Predictable fees and a built-in decentralized exchange further simplify flows. An agent can send RLUSD from one wallet and the recipient can receive XRP, with the ledger's native DEX handling the conversion without external bridges. For institutional use, Ripple highlights escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization and trust lines as built-in controls that define exactly which counterparties an agent can deal with and what approvals are required.

The 3.2.0 upgrade takes a different but equally important approach. Its core efficiency gain is a 30 to 40 percent reduction in node memory requirements, lowering hardware costs and making it easier for operators to run a full node. That should bolster network decentralization. The rename from "rippled" to "xrpld" is symbolic: it strengthens the link to the XRP Ledger while distancing the software from Ripple the corporate entity, positioning the network as a neutral, community-run infrastructure. For ordinary XRP holders the change is invisible, but validator and node operators must update their systems before the June 15 activation date to remain in consensus.

The network upgrades land against a backdrop of declining on-chain activity. Transaction fees on the XRP Ledger have dropped over 91 percent since February 2025, a sign some analysts interpret as waning organic demand. That fall in usage partly explains why the token price remains under pressure despite a clear regulatory win: the SEC and CFTC classified XRP as a "digital commodity" in March 2026, removing a years-long legal cloud.

Ripple describes the AI Starter Kit as an initial phase, with future versions to be shaped by developer feedback. The 3.2.0 update is similarly foundational — it improves the underlying infrastructure without offering a direct catalyst for the token. Whether XRP eventually becomes the settlement layer for autonomous trading or a go-to payment rail for institutions will depend on how many developers build on the ledger and how many real transactions those applications generate. For now, the next measurable data point is the on-chain activity in the weeks following both releases.
