XRP Approaches Key Threshold Amid Converging Catalysts
29.01.2026 - 05:06:03A pivotal confluence of regulatory, institutional, and macroeconomic factors is setting the stage for a potentially decisive move in XRP's valuation, with analysts eyeing a sustained break above the significant $2.00 level.
The U.S. Federal Reserve's decision on January 28 to maintain its benchmark interest rate within the 3.5% to 3.75% range provided support for risk-sensitive assets, including cryptocurrencies. In response, XRP appreciated by 0.56%, trading at $1.93 and continuing its recovery from a recent low of $1.81 recorded on January 25. This monetary policy stability, marking the first Fed decision of 2026, removes a layer of uncertainty for investors.
A Major Legal Hurdle Dismissed
In a significant development for Ripple Labs, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit dismissed a class-action lawsuit against the company on January 27. The court ruled that the plaintiffs, led by Bradley Sostack, had exceeded the statute of limitations. It noted that XRP was first offered publicly in 2013 when Ripple sold over 500 million tokens on the XRP exchange, meaning the three-year window for filing claims under the Securities Act expired in 2016—two years before Sostack initiated his action.
"The nature of XRP did not change between 2013 and 2017," the court stated. This ruling further solidifies Ripple's legal standing following its August 2025 settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), in which the company paid $125 million, a fraction of the initially sought $2 billion.
Institutional Demand Meets Constricted Supply
The introduction of XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in late 2025 has catalyzed substantial institutional capital flows, with aggregate inflows reaching approximately $1.24 billion. Canary Capital and Bitwise currently lead the field, holding $346 million and $324 million in assets under management, respectively.
This growing institutional appetite coincides with a tightening supply on exchanges. Analyst Matt Mena highlighted that XRP balances on centralized trading platforms have plummeted to a seven-year low of 1.7 billion tokens. "Institutional ETF demand is meeting a community that is unwilling to sell," his report concluded.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Asset manager 21Shares outlined three potential price trajectories for 2026 in a report published January 28:
* Base Case: $2.45 – assuming stable regulation and consistent ETF inflows.
* Bull Case: $2.69 – contingent on a significant acceleration in institutional demand.
* Bear Case: $1.60 – should mainstream adoption stagnate.
Ecosystem Expansion and Regulatory Progress
Ripple's ecosystem is demonstrating robust growth beyond its core token. Its stablecoin, RLUSD, has seen explosive adoption since launch, with its market capitalization surging by 1,800% to nearly $1.4 billion. RLUSD functions as a bridge for cross-border settlements, while XRP acts as the intermediary currency.
Strategic partnerships underscore widening institutional interest. Jeel, the innovation arm of Saudi Arabia's Riyad Bank, is collaborating with Ripple to modernize financial infrastructure. Separately, DXC Technology is integrating Ripple's blockchain solutions into its Hogan core banking platform, which manages $5 trillion in deposits globally.
Furthermore, Ripple secured a provisional approval for a national bank charter from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in December 2025 and has applied for a master account with the Federal Reserve.
Market participants are now looking ahead to the XRP Community Day on February 11, where CEO Brad Garlinghouse is scheduled to discuss XRP's expanding role within institutional finance.
