The Chinese technology conglomerate Xiaomi is currently advancing on multiple strategic fronts simultaneously. A wave of new product announcements, impressive electric vehicle sales figures, and a substantial share repurchase program are converging to capture market attention. This raises a key question for investors: which of these drivers holds the most immediate significance for the company's equity?

Share Repurchases Provide Support Amid Market Pressure

Despite a series of positive developments, Xiaomi's shares have faced persistent downward pressure. The stock closed at €3.93 on Monday, reflecting a decline of 37.45% over a 12-month period. It currently trades just 6.29% above its 52-week low of €3.62 and remains significantly below its 200-day moving average, with a gap of -25.98%. This underscores a medium-term trend that has yet to reverse.

In response, the company is actively supporting its share price through buybacks. A program of up to HK$2.5 billion was announced in January. The most recent transaction occurred on 20 February, with approximately 4.28 million shares repurchased for HK$152.2 million. This followed additional buybacks in mid-February. Since the repurchase mandate was authorized in June 2025, the company has bought back a cumulative 239 million shares, according to reports.

MWC 2026 Serves as Launchpad for New Hardware Portfolio

All eyes are now on the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, where Xiaomi's official product unveiling is scheduled for 28 February. This follows a global "Early Reveal" livestream held on Monday, which offered a first look at several upcoming products.

The flagship announcement is expected to be the Xiaomi 17 Series, led by the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Industry reports suggest the global versions will largely mirror the specifications of the China models, albeit with slightly smaller batteries. The company is also set to showcase a broad portfolio at the event, including the Xiaomi Pad 8 Series, the Xiaomi Tag Bluetooth tracker, the Xiaomi Watch 5, REDMI Buds 8 Pro, and accessories like a slim magnetic power bank. Xiaomi continues to highlight its strategic partnership with Leica, now entering its fourth year.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

Electric Vehicle Division Emerges as a Key Valuation Pillar

While new hardware generates headlines, the company's foray into electric vehicles (EVs) is increasingly viewed as a fundamental component of its long-term valuation. Since its 2024 launch, Xiaomi has reportedly delivered a cumulative total of over 600,000 electric vehicles. An alternate source cites a figure of 551,308 units by the end of 2025.

A standout performance was recorded in January 2026, where the Xiaomi YU7 reportedly became the best-selling passenger car model in China with 37,869 units sold. For context, Tesla's Model Y achieved 16,845 units in the same period according to the cited data. Looking ahead, the reported delivery target for 2026 stands at 550,000 vehicles.

The upcoming quarterly earnings report, expected on 17 March 2026, will provide the next crucial data point for investors to assess the interplay between these product launches, EV execution, and financial performance.
