Xiaomi's Multi-Front Strategy: Buybacks, New Phones, and EV Push
17.02.2026 - 08:20:15 | boerse-global.deThe Chinese technology giant Xiaomi is executing a coordinated strategic push across several key business areas simultaneously. This flurry of activity, from a significant share repurchase to imminent product launches and expanded electric mobility initiatives, appears to be a carefully timed maneuver.
Investors will get a clear view of the operational impact of these initiatives when the company releases its quarterly financial report on March 24. The upcoming results will indicate whether this broad strategic offensive is translating into tangible performance.
Share Buyback Demonstrates Financial Confidence
In a move signaling strong internal confidence, Xiaomi purchased 1.5 million of its own B-shares at the start of the week. The transaction, disclosed in a stock exchange filing, was valued at approximately 54.7 million Hong Kong dollars. Such repurchase programs typically serve a dual purpose: they demonstrate management's belief in the company's financial strength and, by reducing the number of shares outstanding, they can enhance the per-share value for remaining stockholders.
Global Smartphone Launch Imminent
On the product front, a major launch is on the horizon. Xiaomi plans to unveil its new flagship smartphone models, the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, to a global audience before the end of February. This timing strategically precedes the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, which begins in early March. For its premium Ultra model, Xiaomi has partnered with display specialist TCL CSOT. This collaboration aims to leverage new display technology to deliver a combination of superior image quality and enhanced energy efficiency.

Electric Mobility Ambitions Accelerate
Concurrently, the company is aggressively advancing its electric mobility ambitions. Xiaomi Auto has been named the official partner of the 2026 Beijing Half Marathon. Its YU7 electric vehicle model will serve as the event's official car, securing prominent visibility. Furthermore, Xiaomi has expanded its personal electric transport portfolio with the new "Electric Scooter 6" series, which is already featured on its global website.
