Wheaton Precious Metals capped off its 2025 fiscal year with robust operational results, surpassing its own forecasts. As the company makes significant investments to expand its silver streaming capacity, broader sector volatility has prompted a pause in its equity performance. Investors are now focusing on the long-term growth trajectory and the impending annual financial report.

Sector Headwinds Trigger Pullback

Despite the positive operational news, Wheaton's stock faced downward pressure in recent trading. This retreat aligns with a widespread sell-off across the precious metals sector, driven by a strengthening US dollar and shifting sentiment among commodity investors. After a powerful advance since the start of the year, the shares closed at 130.30 euros, placing them approximately eight percent below their recent 52-week peak.

Market analysts interpret the current price movement as profit-taking following a period of exceptional strength. The fundamental picture, however, remains solid. The company recently reported net profit margins of around 77 percent, benefiting from the high efficiency inherent in its streaming business model.

Production Output Exceeds Guidance

The company's operational prowess was clearly demonstrated in its latest production figures. Wheaton reported approximately 692,000 gold equivalent ounces (GEO) for the past year, exceeding the high end of its own target range. The bar is set even higher for the current 2026 year, with guidance set between 860,000 and 940,000 GEO.

A key driver behind this optimistic outlook is the expansion of its silver stream at the Antamina mine in Peru. Through an agreement with BHP, Wheaton has doubled its silver entitlement there to 67.5 percent. This move is expected to contribute an additional six million ounces of silver annually over the next five years. The question for markets is whether this strong operational development can counter prevailing macroeconomic crosswinds.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Wheaton Precious Metals?

Investing in Industry Sustainability

Alongside its core business, Wheaton is investing in the long-term viability of the mining sector. On March 2, the company awarded its "Future of Mining" prize to Cetos Water, supporting water treatment technologies. These innovations aim to reduce critical bottlenecks in project timelines and permitting processes, which are often exacerbated by water scarcity.

The stability of support around the current share price level will be tested in the coming sessions. Investors await the full financial results for the fourth quarter and full year 2025, scheduled for release on March 12, 2026. This report is anticipated to provide further details on the long-term target of 1.2 million GEO by 2030.
