Voestalpine Confirms Divestment of Böhler Profil Unit to US Firm

Austrian steel and technology group Voestalpine has signed a definitive agreement to sell its subsidiary Böhler Profil to American industrial concern Kadant Inc. The transaction, valued at approximately 157 million euros in cash, represents a strategic portfolio adjustment within Voestalpine's High Performance Metals division.

The deal involves the sale of Böhler Profil GmbH & Co KG, based in Bruckbach, Lower Austria. Kadant plans to integrate the business into its "Industrial Processing" segment, rebranding the operation as "Kadant Profil." All 150 employees of the unit are expected to be retained by the new owner.

Voestalpine has framed the move as a strategic streamlining effort, allowing for a sharper focus within its specialty metals business. The company anticipates finalizing the sale, pending regulatory approvals, by the end of the 2025/26 financial year, or within the first quarter of 2026.

Financial Impact and Market Reaction

Despite the influx of capital from the sale, Voestalpine's management has reaffirmed its existing earnings guidance. For the 2025/26 fiscal period, the company continues to project an EBITDA between 1.40 and 1.55 billion euros.

The Böhler Profil unit generated revenue of 51.5 million euros in the 2024/25 financial year.

News of the divestment arrived during a broadly weak trading session for Austrian equities. Voestalpine shares traded lower on the day, moving in line with the ATX benchmark index, which faced pressure following recent gains.

Next Steps and Timeline

The completion of the transaction remains conditional upon receiving the necessary regulatory clearances. Voestalpine has indicated that the closing is targeted for before the conclusion of the current 2025/26 business year, contingent on the approval process.
