Verbio Shares Reach Record Territory on Strong Fundamentals
12.03.2026 - 05:58:03 | boerse-global.deThe stock of German biofuels producer Verbio has surged to a new 52-week peak, having more than tripled in value over the past twelve months. This remarkable ascent is fueled by a powerful convergence of three key drivers: soaring energy prices, a substantially improved operational performance, and supportive regulatory changes.
Regulatory Tailwinds and Operational Momentum
A significant boost comes from the regulatory landscape. Germany has increased its greenhouse gas reduction quota (THG-Quote) from 10.6% to 12.1%, directly stimulating additional demand for sustainable fuels. Furthermore, the suspension of surplus quota usage for 2025 and 2026—a measure implemented in response to fraud cases within the certificate market—is expected to more than offset the discontinuation of double-counting for certain certificates.
This regulatory support coincides with a powerful operational turnaround for the company. Verbio's second-quarter results marked its strongest performance in years. EBITDA soared to €30.1 million, representing a 45% increase year-over-year and a striking 95% sequential gain from the previous quarter. This surge was propelled by robust ethanol spreads and higher prices for biofuel quota certificates.
For the first half of the year, revenue stood at €896 million, while the net loss narrowed to less than €1 million. The company also reported record production volumes across its European operations.
Divergent Views from Market Analysts
Despite the stock's powerful rally, analyst opinions on its future trajectory are mixed. Jefferies recently raised its price target on Verbio from €21 to €25, marking its second upward revision within a few months. However, the firm maintains a "Hold" rating, arguing that the improved market environment and raised 2026 forecasts are already largely reflected in the current share price.
In contrast, mwb research holds a more bullish stance, issuing a "Buy" recommendation with a €32 price target. The analysis cites rising biofuel prices driven by the RED III directive and the company's expanding production capacity in the United States as key positive factors.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Verbio?
With the stock currently trading at €32.88, it sits precisely at mwb's target, raising questions about its near-term upside potential. Jefferies' assessment suggests the fair value is considerably lower.
The Next Catalyst: Bitterfeld Expansion
The scheduled ramp-up of Verbio's Bitterfeld production site in the second half of 2026 represents the next critical test. A successful and smooth launch would provide the company with a tangible new lever for growth and help solidify its operational recovery.
For now, the share price—trading far above its 200-day moving average of approximately €16.79 and with a Relative Strength Index (RSI) of 29.3 indicating oversold conditions—encapsulates the market's divided sentiment: a story of a strong fundamental recovery paired with an ongoing debate over appropriate valuation.
