The Chinese robotics firm Ubtech Robotics is charting an aggressive growth trajectory, aiming to deliver roughly 5,000 humanoid robots in 2026 — nearly five times the 1,079 units it shipped last year. That 2025 tally itself marked a dramatic leap from just three units in the prior year, underscoring the breakneck pace of the company's scaling ambitions.

To support this ramp-up, Ubtech is pouring resources into manufacturing capacity while simultaneously diversifying beyond its traditional automotive stronghold. Currently, more than 80% of deployed robots work in car factories and logistics for partners like BYD and FAW-Volkswagen. But the company is now pushing into aerospace, electronics, and agriculture. Airbus is already testing Walker S2 units in aircraft assembly, Texas Instruments is using them in chip fabrication plants, and Malaysian agri-firm Agroz plans to deploy the machines in vertical farms from 2026 for tasks including seeding, monitoring, and harvesting.

Strategic Stake Building

Alongside operational expansion, Ubtech has been tightening its grip on the supply chain. Last Friday, the company completed a 13.02% stake purchase in a Shenzhen-listed target firm, paying 17.72 renminbi per A-share. That brings its total holding to roughly 43.01%. The move is designed to deepen the company's position in the technology and robotics value chain, with closer operational collaboration expected to unlock synergies as Ubtech integrates advanced robotics and artificial intelligence into commercial applications.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ubtech Robotics?

Betting Big on AI Talent

The push into new industries is being backed by a massive recruitment drive. Ubtech has posted a global job listing for a chief scientist in "embodied intelligence," offering compensation ranging from $2.2 million to $18 million annually. The hire signals a strategic pivot from pure hardware manufacturing toward an AI-driven model. The company wants its robots to perceive and act more autonomously through advanced vision-language-action models, enabling them to adapt flexibly to unstructured environments.

The Efficiency Hurdle

Despite the ambitious targets, the market remains cautious. Ubtech's shares trade at around €11.61 to €11.69, having gained roughly 16% over the past month but sitting nearly 20% lower year-to-date. The relative strength index of 44 points to a neutral stance among investors.

A key challenge lies in the robots' actual performance. The Walker S2 currently achieves only about 50% of a human worker's efficiency. Management aims to push that figure to 80% by 2027. If that threshold isn't met, justifying mass production for complex sectors like aviation and agriculture could prove difficult.

Financial Trajectory

On the financial side, Ubtech's total revenue climbed 53% last year to hit the 2 billion yuan mark, while its net loss narrowed significantly. The company is targeting further improvements in profitability this year, driven by higher delivery volumes and a focus on scaling production. Long-term, Ubtech plans to drive the Walker S2's unit cost down from $80,000 to under $20,000 through near-complete localization of its supply chain within China, with annual cost reductions expected.
