TSMC Attracts Record Foreign Investment Amid AI Surge

26.02.2026 - 04:22:09 | boerse-global.de

Foreign capital pours into TSMC at a 19-year high, driven by its pivotal role in AI chip manufacturing and strong financial projections, lifting Taiwan's market.

Foreign capital is pouring into Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) at a pace not witnessed in nearly two decades. The primary driver behind a net inflow of $2.77 billion into the Taiwanese stock market on Tuesday—the largest single-day influx since December 2005—is the world’s leading contract chipmaker. TSMC is capturing massive benefits from the ongoing artificial intelligence boom.

Uninterrupted Investor Confidence

This recent purchasing activity represents the sixth consecutive trading day of net buying by foreign investors. TSMC’s shares, which have already gained approximately 30% this year and repeatedly hit new record highs, now constitute about 45% of Taiwan’s benchmark Taiex index, lifting the broader market. The company’s market capitalization has surpassed the $2 trillion threshold for the first time.

These substantial capital flows are also providing support for the Taiwanese dollar. If the current velocity is maintained, Taiwan could see around $7 billion in foreign investment for February, a period during which other Asian markets are reporting outflows.

Solid Fundamentals Behind the AI Narrative

Investor optimism is rooted in TSMC’s indispensable position within the AI supply chain. The company manufactures cutting-edge semiconductors for technology giants including Apple, AMD, and Nvidia. Its financial projections for AI-related revenue are robust: between 2024 and 2029, TSMC anticipates a compound annual growth rate in the mid-to-high 50 percent range.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TSMC?

For the first quarter of 2026, the firm is targeting revenue of $34.6 billion to $35.8 billion, with a projected gross margin of 63% to 65%. Concurrently, TSMC is making significant investments, with a capital expenditure budget for 2026 set between $52 billion and $56 billion. In January alone, the company acquired fixed-income instruments worth approximately $950 million and purchased land for about $195 million.

Commanding roughly 70% of the global pure-play foundry market, TSMC remains the dominant force. For investors captivated by the AI theme, the company currently appears to be an essential holding.
