Triple-Leveraged Silver ETF’s 10% Snapback Masks 53% Monthly Rout Amid SEC Probe and Fed Jitters

A single-day surge of 10.27 percent in Milan on June 30 brought an abrupt reprieve for the WisdomTree Silver 3x Daily Leveraged ETC, yet the bigger picture remains grim. The product, which amped up a recovery in Comex silver futures to close at €6.624, had lost 6.84 percent the previous day—and, over the past 30 days, more than half its value. The US-listed version of the same instrument ended Tuesday at $7.76, up 2.68 percent on the day but down roughly 53 percent on a monthly horizon.
That violent oscillation is the hallmark of a triple-leveraged vehicle tracking the Solactive Silver Commodity Futures SL Index via fully collateralised swaps. WisdomTree uses no physical silver bars; the return depends entirely on the daily path of front-month futures, a monthly roll process and a daily reset that compounds gains and losses with ferocious speed. The 30-day annualised volatility stands at 152 percent, and the 14-day relative strength index has dipped to 31.4—flirting with oversold territory that often precedes a counter-trend bounce.
SEC sharpens focus on leveraged ETFs
On 30 June, the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced a new approval procedure explicitly targeting leveraged and inverse exchange-traded funds. A 60-day public comment period will examine whether existing rules adequately cover pricing, liquidity and net asset value for high-leverage products. The global ETF market is forecast to reach roughly $12 trillion by end-2025, and the regulator’s move signals increasing scrutiny of products that amplify daily moves by two or three times.
The WisdomTree 3x Silver ETC sits at the aggressive end of the firm’s commodity suite, alongside the 2x Daily Leveraged version (which uses the Bloomberg Silver Sub Excess Return Index) and the 3x Daily Short counterpart. The Milan-listed shares saw volume jump to 474,520 units on 30 June from 286,720 the prior session—a sign that the day’s swing attracted sustained trading interest.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying WisdomTree Silver 3x Daily Leveraged?
Rate pressure dominates short-term action
The bounce came after silver spot prices briefly breached $58 an ounce and then recovered from an intraday low of $57. Futures on the Comex initially shed as much as $1.63 before reversing sharply. The catalyst for the earlier weakness was a spike in US Treasury yields: the 10-year note climbed 9 basis points to 4.7 percent after US job openings hit a two-year high in May. Those data reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve will maintain its restrictive stance, with governor Kevin Warsh recently hinting that rates could stay elevated for longer.
Geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz briefly lent support to precious metals, but the so-called Islamabad agreement and signs of diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran have since eroded the safety premium embedded in silver prices. For now, interest-rate signals from the US are overriding any supply-side narrative.
Structural deficit offers a longer-term anchor
Yet beneath the daily noise lies a fundamental story that remains intact. The Silver Institute forecasts a physical market deficit of 46.3 million ounces in 2026, marking the sixth consecutive year of shortfall. Demand from solar manufacturing, data centres and artificial intelligence applications continues to climb, providing a structural floor for the metal.
But leveraged products are not designed for such long horizons. The WisdomTree ETC resets its exposure every day, meaning that the compounding effect of negative days can overwhelm even a favourable multi-month trend. Until the Fed’s tightening cycle shows clear signs of easing, silver—and its triple-leveraged derivatives—will likely remain hostage to the next yield move or employment report, rather than to the looming supply gap.
