The Three Pillars Behind Nokia's €13.30 Close: AI Lab, Regulatory Win, and Cloud Growth

Nokia's stock nearly tripled in 2026, driven by AI networking lab, US regulatory clearance, and 49% cloud revenue growth. Analysts shift valuation to AI infrastructure.

Nokia shares closed at €13.30 on Friday, marking a new 52-week high with a single-day gain of more than nine percent. The stock has now nearly tripled since the start of the year, surging by roughly 139 percent. But this rally is far from a one-trick pony — three distinct drivers converged to push the Finnish network equipment maker to its highest level in over a year.

The immediate spark came on 21 May when Nokia announced the opening of an AI Networking Innovation Lab in Sunnyvale, California. The facility is designed to develop, test, and validate network architectures tailored to AI data centres, covering both large-scale training and real-time inference. Early technology partners include AMD, Lenovo, Supermicro, and Keysight — all names that signal Nokia’s ambition to reposition itself from a traditional telecom supplier to a critical infrastructure provider for the AI era.

But the AI lab was far from the only catalyst. Earlier in May, Nokia received conditional approval from the US Federal Communications Commission for its home broadband equipment, including beacons and optical network terminals. The waiver from the so-called "Covered List" restrictions clears the way for an unhindered rollout in the United States. In addition, Nokia announced plans to manufacture its next-generation Wi-Fi 8 gateways on US soil. On the leadership front, Emma Falck will take over the Mobile Infrastructure division in September, a move widely interpreted as a commitment to an AI-native 5G and 6G strategy.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

The fundamental backdrop gives these moves credibility. Nokia’s first-quarter 2026 numbers showed adjusted earnings per share climbing to €0.05 from €0.03 a year earlier. Revenue in the Network Infrastructure segment rose six percent, with Optical Networks posting a 20 percent jump. Most striking: revenue from AI and cloud customers soared 49 percent year on year. Several analysts have since upgraded the stock, shifting their valuation benchmarks away from traditional telecom peers and toward companies with exposure to optical networking and AI infrastructure.

This week brings no Nokia earnings — the next scheduled release is 23 July. Instead, investors will focus on external data. On 28 May, the US Commerce Department publishes the second estimate of first-quarter GDP growth together with April income and spending data, including the PCE price index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge. The European Commission also releases its Economic Sentiment Indicator, which offers a read on industrial investment appetite. For a European network equipment maker with substantial US exposure, an upside inflation surprise could temper rate-cut expectations and weigh on technology valuations.

The first real test comes immediately: whether Nokia can hold the €13.30 level in early trading. If it does, the market will be signalling that the new valuation — built on an AI lab, regulatory clarity, and a sharp uptick in cloud-related revenue — is seen as a starting point rather than a peak. The next step will be converting these tailwinds into concrete contract wins, a move that would determine whether this 52-week high becomes a floor or a ceiling.
