The Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF has punched through to fresh all-time highs, with the fund touching €154.22 on Thursday — a milestone driven by a barrage of quarterly results from the portfolio’s heavyweight tech names. The accumulation share class, which now holds roughly $36 billion in assets, has climbed more than 23% over the past 52 weeks in dollar terms.

The earnings season has been the dominant catalyst. Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft all reported after Wednesday’s close, with Apple following on Thursday. These five titans, together with Nvidia, command roughly a quarter of the entire portfolio. Alphabet beat expectations with quarterly revenue of nearly $110 billion, while its cloud business surged 63% — sending the stock up as much as 6% in after-hours trading. Amazon also cleared forecasts, posting earnings per share of $2.78, with its AWS cloud division recording its strongest growth in over three years. Meta managed a 33% revenue increase but saw its shares dip after-hours after lifting its capital expenditure guidance.

The fund’s heavy US tilt — American equities account for about 64% of assets — means these tech earnings carry outsized weight. The technology sector alone represents a quarter of the portfolio’s sector allocation. Yet a rotation is quietly underway. The FTSE All-World ex-US index delivered a total return of 32.6% last year, dwarfing the 18% from the pure US index. That shift into European and Asian developed markets has continued into 2025.

On the distribution front, the ETF is gaining new access points. Swiss fintech Neon has added the Vanguard FTSE All-World to its monthly savings plans without charging trading fees, effective from late April. Investors still pay the fund’s ongoing charge of 0.19% annually plus Swiss stamp duty, but the zero-commission entry removes a key barrier for smaller retail savers.

The fund’s sheer scale is hard to ignore. With total assets under management exceeding $63 billion, the Ireland-domiciled vehicle is the largest tracker on the FTSE All-World index. It holds nearly 3,800 individual stocks across developed and emerging markets, with the average constituent boasting a market capitalisation of around $148 billion. The portfolio’s price-to-earnings ratio stands at 21.7, while the average return on equity of its holdings approaches 19%.

Structural changes are also on the horizon. April 30 marks the Russell Rank Day, when market capitalisations at the close determine future index membership for US stocks. The next regular rebalancing of the FTSE All-World index itself is scheduled for June 2026. Until then, the macro backdrop remains challenging — the International Monetary Fund projects global growth of just 3.1% this year with inflation proving stubborn.

Short-term volatility has been evident. The net asset value hit an intraweek high earlier this week before easing to $179.27 by Wednesday. But the tech earnings wave, combined with the ongoing rotation into emerging and international markets, continues to shape the fund’s trajectory as central bank meetings loom in May.
