Siemens Energy has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a market concern to a standout performer within Germany's blue-chip DAX index. Despite a recent pullback in its share price, two significant structural developments are providing sustained momentum for the energy technology giant.

A Landmark Share Buyback and Dividend Resumption

Demonstrating renewed financial confidence, Siemens Energy initiated a substantial share repurchase program on March 4. The company plans to buy back up to €2 billion worth of its own stock, which forms part of a broader capital return framework totaling €6 billion. The program saw immediate action, with nearly 820,000 shares acquired in its first week alone.

Further underscoring this strengthened financial posture, the company declared its first dividend in three years, set at €0.70 per share. Management is intentionally leveraging this move to signal stability and a commitment to returning value to shareholders.

Inclusion in a Premier European Index

Adding to the positive momentum, Siemens Energy is set to join the prestigious STOXX Europe 50 index on March 23, replacing the spirits group Diageo. This inclusion was triggered by the index's "fast-entry" rule, which applies when a company's market capitalization rises rapidly and significantly. With a market value of approximately €132 billion, Siemens Energy has comfortably surpassed the required threshold.

This is more than a symbolic achievement. Index-tracking funds and ETFs that replicate the STOXX Europe 50 will be required to purchase the stock, creating a structural source of demand that operates independently of day-to-day business performance. The company now holds a place in three major European benchmarks, including the Euro STOXX 50.

Robust Operational Performance Provides Foundation

These strategic financial actions are built upon a solid operational base. For the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Siemens Energy reported a 33% surge in new orders to €17.6 billion. Its order backlog reached an unprecedented €146 billion. Earnings per share showed marked improvement, rising from €0.23 to €0.79.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

The group has reaffirmed its full-year guidance, projecting revenue growth between 11% and 13% and a net profit in the range of €3 to €4 billion. Notably, the company has raised its medium-term margin target for 2028 to 14-16%, a significant increase from the previous goal of 10-12%.

Gamesa Restructuring: The Remaining Challenge

Following a strong rally in preceding months, the stock has entered a consolidation phase. Since reaching a high of €169.20 in late February, shares have retreated by approximately 16%, recently closing at €142.75. This still represents a year-to-date gain of over 16%.

The primary risk factor continues to be the wind power division, Siemens Gamesa. While restructuring efforts are showing progress—the quarterly deficit narrowed dramatically from €1.36 billion a year ago to €46 million—its sustained recovery remains under scrutiny. The market will gain clearer insight on May 12, when Siemens Energy releases its second-quarter results. Until then, the dual catalysts of index inclusion and the share buyback program offer underlying support, contingent on Siemens Gamesa continuing its positive trajectory.
