Sterling Metals Reports Major Copper-Molybdenum Discovery at Soo Project
03.03.2026 - 02:10:30 | boerse-global.de
Exploration company Sterling Metals has announced a significant breakthrough at its Soo Copper Project, validating its geological model and pointing to a potentially much larger system than previously understood. The key finding is the discovery of a copper-molybdenum mineralized porphyry stock exceeding 400 meters in length.
Validation of a Large-Scale Porphyry System
The discovery was made through drill hole SC-26-01, the first successful hole of the 2026 exploration program. At approximately 530 meters depth, the drill intersected the porphyry stock, with mineralization continuing beyond the 1,000-meter mark.
Chief Geologist Neil O'Brien described the 400-meter intercept as a direct validation of the exploration model, which envisions a vast porphyry copper complex on the Soo property. Geological analysis identified the rock as granite to quartz monzonite porphyry. Widespread potassium feldspar alteration, along with specific chalcopyrite and bornite mineralizations, serve as direct indicators of metal-rich hydrothermal fluids.
Context Within the Broader Copper Corridor
This new discovery is situated roughly 1.5 kilometers from the existing MEPS Discovery Zone. The entire project lies within a defined copper corridor measuring seven by three kilometers, located north of Sault Ste. Marie.
For scale, the known MEPS Zone covers an area of 400 by 400 meters. A reference hole from September 2025 there returned 265.5 meters of 1.05% copper equivalent, including a higher-grade section of 68.3 meters grading 3.25%. Sterling Metals calculates these equivalent values using average metal prices from 2023 to 2025, including $4.18 per pound for copper and $2,600 per ounce for gold.

Next Steps for the Exploration Program
The company's immediate focus is on translating this potential into further high-grade zones. The next phase of drilling will target the western edge of the identified resistivity anomaly, aiming to intersect richer copper deposits. An additional drill hole beneath the original MEPS discovery is also planned for the ongoing winter program.
Sterling Metals management is currently presenting these results to the investment community at the PDAC 2026 mining convention in Toronto.
