Often viewed as a provider of essential industrial commodities, Linde is increasingly drawing investor attention for its involvement in a far more futuristic market: space exploration. Market strategists at UBS have identified rocket propellants as a major future growth driver for the company. This, combined with Linde's established multi-decade dividend record, reinforces its profile as a defensive holding with compelling growth prospects.

Dividend Reliability and Consistent Performance

Linde's commitment to shareholder returns remains a cornerstone of its appeal. This week, March 11 marked the ex-dividend date for the upcoming quarterly distribution of $1.60 per share. The most recent 7% increase marks the 33rd consecutive year in which the company has raised its payout.

This financial consistency is mirrored in its operational execution. The industrial gases group has surpassed analyst consensus estimates for adjusted earnings per share for 28 consecutive quarters. UBS anticipates that a stabilization in European industrial demand will help support this ongoing trend of outperformance.

UBS Highlights Rocket Propellant Potential

On March 11, investment bank UBS reaffirmed its buy recommendation for Linde, specifically citing the significant potential within the rocket propellant market. Experts project this segment could grow at an annual rate of approximately 50%, fueled by a rising number of launches involving increasingly larger carrier systems.

While currently representing only 1-2% of total group revenue, this sector is expected to provide a meaningful boost to Linde's annual volume growth in the medium term. Alongside the electronics division, the space sector is now seen as a critical component in achieving the company's target of delivering over 10% earnings-per-share growth.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Linde?

Stock Performance and Market Valuation

The market has recognized this operational strength. Since the start of the year, Linde's shares have already advanced more than 16%. Closing at €426.00 on Thursday, the stock trades just shy of its 52-week high of €436.00.

Current valuations price in moderate earnings expansion, with additional momentum from the aerospace segment potentially contributing around 2% to annual growth over the next five years. Shareholders will receive the current dividend payment on March 26.
