Solana’s Dual Breakthrough: A Regulated Stablecoin and a Sports Token Migration Converge

Solana hosts Israel's first regulated shekel stablecoin BILS and Chiliz's 70+ fan tokens, signaling growing institutional and sports adoption despite cautious token price.

Solana’s ecosystem is quietly building a case for mainstream relevance, even as its token price tells a more cautious story. On April 28, 2026, two significant developments landed on the same day: Israel’s first fully regulated shekel-backed stablecoin went live on the network, and Chiliz, the sports fan-token platform, began migrating over 70 tokens—including those for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain—onto Solana and Base.

The stablecoin, BILS, issued by Bits of Gold, received full approval from the Israeli Capital Market, Insurance and Savings Authority (CMISA) after a two-year sandbox pilot. Its reserves sit in segregated Israeli bank accounts, with EY auditing the 1:1 backing. Fireblocks handles custody, and QEDIT provides privacy via zero-knowledge proofs. The timing is notable: the Israeli shekel is trading at a 30-year high against the U.S. dollar, giving the token immediate currency-market relevance.

BILS is designed for foreign-exchange transactions against major stablecoins like USDC, smart-contract executions, and cross-border shekel transfers. Bits of Gold is already courting banks and payment providers for institutional integrations. For Solana, the approval is a regulatory landmark—a proof point that the network can host compliant, fiat-backed digital currencies, a space long dominated by Ethereum.

On the same day, Chiliz’s migration added a different kind of momentum. The platform is moving more than 70 fan tokens onto Solana and Base using the Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, which maintains a unified token supply across multiple blockchains. The move aims to leverage Solana’s speed and low costs for a global audience, particularly ahead of the FIFA World Cup. By avoiding liquidity fragmentation—a common pitfall in multi-chain setups—Chiliz hopes to keep its active user bases engaged across sporting events.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Solana?

Solana’s technical infrastructure continues to mature. The network processes roughly 1,200 transactions per second, with 25.3 billion transactions recorded in the first quarter of 2026—though that figure includes validator voting transactions, making it not directly comparable to other chains. Developer activity is surging: between January and September 2025, nearly 11,500 new developers joined, bringing the total to around 17,700.

On the security front, the Solana Foundation is preparing for a post-quantum future. Core development teams Anza and Firedancer (Jump Crypto) have independently selected the Falcon post-quantum signature scheme, with initial implementations now in testing. No immediate protocol-level changes are required, but the groundwork is being laid for long-term resilience.

Looking ahead, Solana’s planned Alpenglow consensus protocol aims to cut transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to between 100 and 150 milliseconds, with a mainnet launch targeted for late 2026. For regulated financial applications like BILS, that kind of speed would be a game-changer.

Solana at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Yet the token market remains unimpressed. SOL is trading around $85, down more than 32% since the start of the year. The relative strength index sits near 32, a technically oversold level. ETF inflows in April hit just under $40 million, the weakest monthly figure since the products launched. The price has more than halved from its September 2025 high of $247.

The contrast is stark: a network that is adding regulatory approvals, developer talent, sports-fan ecosystems, and quantum-proofing, while its token struggles to find a bid. Whether the Chiliz migration—with its built-in user bases around global events like the World Cup—can shift demand dynamics remains an open question. But for now, Solana’s adoption story is running on a different track than its price.
