SoftBank investors are bracing for a packed schedule as monetary policy meetings from the Bank of Japan and the Federal Reserve dominate the early part of the week, before attention shifts to the company’s annual general meeting on June 24. The stock has shown resilience lately — shares closed at €38.10 on Friday, marking a monthly gain of nearly 14% — but the coming days will test whether that rally can withstand a flurry of macro catalysts.

Central Bank Decisions Set the Tone

The Bank of Japan kicks off its two-day meeting on June 15, concluding the following day. The BoJ currently targets a daily interest rate around 0.75%, and any shift in its policy stance or in the yen’s trajectory has direct implications for SoftBank. The conglomerate’s valuation is heavily tied to global appetite for technology and semiconductor names, which are especially sensitive to Japanese monetary conditions.

No sooner does the BoJ wrap up than the Federal Reserve begins its own deliberations on June 16, ending June 17. Market participants are watching closely for signals on the US interest-rate path. Growth stocks, particularly those tied to long-term AI and cloud expectations, are notoriously sensitive to changes in borrowing costs. A continued hawkish tone could pressure valuations, while a more dovish rhetoric might reignite risk appetite for tech.

Adding to the macro mix, Japan will release national inflation data for May on June 19, a reading that could influence future rate expectations. Earlier in the week, on June 17, both Japanese trade statistics and US retail sales figures are due. The Wall Street will be closed on June 19 for a holiday, giving traders a chance to digest the central bank decisions.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SoftBank?

Volatility and Technicals Paint a Nervous Picture

The stock’s recent advance has not come without signs of strain. The annualized 30-day volatility stands at an extreme 114%, meaning SoftBank shares can swing violently on macro surprises. The Relative Strength Index, at 52.5, sits in neutral territory — neither overbought nor oversold — suggesting the price action is balanced but vulnerable to sudden moves.

Operationally, SoftBank continues to push its AI infrastructure bet. The company recently announced a joint venture to build a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus in Bosquel, France. That project is part of a broader push into high-performance computing, but it has yet to provide a near-term earnings catalyst.

Shareholder Agenda: Dividend and Board Elections

After the macro fireworks, the company itself takes center stage. SoftBank’s 46th ordinary general meeting is scheduled for June 24 in Tokyo. Shareholders will vote on the election of nine board members and on the appropriation of profits. Management has proposed a final dividend of ¥5.50 per share, representing a total payout of roughly ¥31 billion. The dividend is set to be paid on June 25.

SoftBank at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Support Level in Focus

With no major corporate news expected before the AGM, the Friday closing price of €38.10 serves as a key support level. A break below that would call into question the recent recovery in AI-related stocks. If the shares hold after the central bank decisions, attention will turn squarely to the dividend payout later in the month. A rate-driven slide in global tech, however, could quickly upend that scenario and put renewed pressure on SoftBank’s valuation.
