In a significant move within its ongoing corporate transformation, Siemens AG has established a dedicated €50 million fund aimed at preparing its workforce for the accelerating shift toward artificial intelligence and automation. A distinctive feature of this initiative is its governance structure: funding will only be allocated for retraining programs when joint applications are submitted by both business unit management and the company's works council.

Strategic Reskilling Takes Center Stage

The foundation for this five-year fund is a tripartite agreement finalized by Siemens, its General Works Council, and the IG Metall union in mid-2025. Designed to finance upskilling measures that extend beyond regular budgetary allocations, the fund will concentrate on sectors where the conglomerate is aggressively advancing its AI-driven infrastructure solutions and autonomous building technology. These are fields poised to fundamentally reshape existing job roles.

The rationale is viewed as highly pragmatic. In an increasingly software-dominated market, retaining highly specialized employees necessitates internal reskilling programs, as opposed to costly external recruitment drives for scarce talent.

Share Performance Lags Amid Strategic Shifts

Despite this strategic advancement, Siemens' stock market performance remains under pressure. Shares closed at €202.85 on Friday, marking a single-day decline of nearly 5%. Since the start of the year, the equity has shed approximately 16% of its value, trading well below its 200-day moving average of €235.77.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens?

The investment community appears to be awaiting tangible proof that the current costs of transformation will translate into improved profitability over the medium term. Upcoming quarterly results, due in May 2026, are anticipated to indicate whether rising order intake—particularly from the AI infrastructure business segment—has begun to validate this strategic calculus.
