A sudden flare-up in Middle East tensions cast a shadow over Siemens Energy’s shares on Monday, briefly interrupting a historic rally. The stock, a standout performer over the past year, dipped nearly two percent to trade around 164 euros as reports of a blockade in the Strait of Hormus rattled global energy markets. This key shipping lane is vital for global energy transport, and its disruption sparked immediate fears over supply chains, energy prices, and the trajectory of central bank interest rates.

Despite the day's geopolitical headwinds, the underlying business momentum at the German energy technology giant remains formidable. The company recently reported first-quarter results that showcased explosive growth, with net profit soaring to 746 million euros, nearly triple the prior-year figure. New orders jumped 33 percent to 17.6 billion euros, pushing the order backlog to a fresh record of 146 billion euros.

This operational strength is fueling an aggressive capital return strategy. Siemens Energy is in the midst of a share buyback program worth up to six billion euros, scheduled to run through the end of 2028. The company has been actively repurchasing its own stock, acquiring over 7.3 million shares between early March and April 6 alone. Further purchases of nearly 1.5 million shares were executed between March 30 and April 6. This consistent capital return has been a key pillar supporting the equity, which has still delivered a staggering gain of approximately 188 percent over a twelve-month period.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

Strategic expansions are running in parallel. The company, alongside Prysmian, recently secured contracts worth three billion British pounds for the "Eastern Green Link 4" project, involving subsea power cables off the UK coast. In the digital realm, a deepening alliance with Amazon Web Services aims to leverage artificial intelligence to optimize manufacturing and plant operations. Siemens Energy will reciprocate by supplying energy infrastructure for Amazon's data centers.

Management's confidence is reflected in its confirmed full-year guidance, which calls for revenue growth of 11 to 13 percent. The net income target is set between 3 and 4 billion euros, with free cash flow before taxes projected in a range of 4 to 5 billion euros. High demand in the Grid Technologies and Gas Services divisions, driven by the global data center boom and grid modernization, underpins this outlook.

The persistent challenge, however, remains the wind power unit Siemens Gamesa. While its quarterly loss narrowed significantly from 374 million to 46 million euros, management still anticipates a negative result for the first half of the year. The division's path to an expected break-even in the full 2026 fiscal year is a critical focus for investors.

All eyes now turn to the upcoming half-year report due on May 12. The market will scrutinize whether the recent geopolitical volatility has impacted operational margins and, more importantly, if the company can reaffirm its ambitious annual targets. The report will also provide a crucial update on the progress at Siemens Gamesa, determining if the group's overall profit goals of up to four billion euros remain firmly within reach.
